Your Definition Of Change?
« on: November 07, 2008, 06:41 PM »

We all hear of the word change, more often than not.
What is this change, how does it affect us as humans? How do we as individuals manage change?
I'd like to think of change as something that softens us more than it hardens us. In Marcus Aurelius' words, "We shrink from change; yet is there anything that can come into being without it"?

There exists global changes in virtually every aspect of life -from global warming to technological advances, from personal relationships to conflicts and wars. Change in effect, remains a very powerful tool.

The question to be asked is, is change good or bad? What is your definition of change?
Lets discuss.

I leave you with the, "7 things that happen when People Find Themselves in a Situation of Change" by K. Blanchard.

1. Doing something that they are not used to doing(feeling awkward, ill-at-ease, self-conscious)
2. Thinking first what you have to give up, not whatyou have to gain (grieving for what will be lost).
3. Feeling alone, even if others are going through thechange (structure exchanges because people can’t think of it naturally)
4. People can handle only so much change(a few may be okay; too many are overwhelming)
5. People are at different levels of readiness for change (not good or bad; don’t label or be judgmental; also it can be situational).
6. People will be concerned that they don’t have enoughresources (people need help realising that there are more resources around them
    than they thought).
7. If the pressure is off, people will revert back to old Behaviour (relapse is natural; yelling doesn’t work).

Great topic.

Change for one, can be inspiring. One only needs to see the way people have changed for the better-i'm talking better careers, lifestyles, education amongst others. All these are positive changes. So does this mean that change is bad?

Yes there are some bad changes, choices that people make sometimes. But i think change is more good than bad most times.
