Why Is Medicine & Surgery Highly Placed By Students Nowadays? Or Is It Really?

Hello Nairalanders, I think i need your opinion on this- Why do almost all students want to study medicine & surgery nowadays. It's so scary to see the number of applicants that put in for the course in univeristies even though there are few spaces available. Aren't there super courses also? The most surprising fact is that it's the same thing in some other countries in africa and abroad. I need your views all.
