Customer Service Training Institute: Would You Sign Up?
« on: August 03, 2006, 02:22 PM »

Anytime from now we plan to roll out the Customer Service Training Institute in Lagos. Its been in the pipeline for ages but vibes we were getting from the Nigerian end was not too positive. Perhaps i should throw it open to nairalanders. What do you guys think of a specialised institution offering training in the field of customer service to people who are already working in a customer oriented industry or to people who are seeking employment in that area.
Our courses are quite direct and provide a clear understanding of what customer service is. While we have used this all over the UK, we are careful not import a wholly "foreign " concept that is why we have taken quite a number of "naija" factors into consideration while designing our courses.
So please my brothers and sisters do you think people will sign up to do courses in Customer service?

Thanks

Am guessing these are short courses so thats good.  U know call centers are a big thing in asia because its cheaper for the Americans n Brits.  Depends on whether call centers will be allowed in2 naija(don't knw if they got those there) or if u r planning 2 work in CSR.  I guess it depends on how many are willing 2 work in CSR.  For me sha, i don't think i have the disposition 2 work as one.  Good luck sha on the institute.

Thanks iice. You must be damn cool to have two ii's in your spelling of ice. Anyway to the topic. Yes they will be short courses. To be quite honest, our initial appraisal for the Nigerian territory showed an absence of any kind of formal training in customer service delivery. Therefore we will be running a lot of introductory courses initially and then introduce higher level courses later.
Thanks for your observation.
There are call centres in Nigeria but i am yet to come across outsourced call centres which is what you find in Asia etc. In Nigeria, UBA (Bank), MTN,GLOBACOM,VMOBILE, STARCOMMS (Telecomms companies) all have call centres. There are also a few handling emergency calls on behalf the accident rescue services.
Infact the only outsourced call centres i know  in West Africa, are in Ghana working for an American firms.

Yes am 2 cool 4 ma liking LOL, but yes am sure there is little or no training in CSR/D and thanks for the info on the call centers in nigeria.  don't knw if they would even like 2 outsource the call centers, but it seems u have done alot of research on it.  So am sure u know the advantages/disadvantages of the whole thing.  I 4 one think its a good idea.

Customer service training is not just for call centre operatives. It cuts across nearly every sphere of business. Airline Staff, bank tellers, Store advisors, Front desk staff-hotels, security, reception etc. All these people need some sort of customer service training. So whether our call centres are outsourced or not, there's still a lot of room for people to be trained in carrying out other tasks.
In Nigeria there is a general misconception that once you are a graduate, you can fit into any role without adequate training. Not true.
Thats why they just employ graduates as customer service advisors in say for example banks but these people are still the most ill equipped to handle potentially volatile situations.
So the courses are not just for call centre operatives in fact The Nigeria Police Force is my target client,
We need to learn how to address people!

thats a very good idea bros, our very own Mary Gober - can't believe m&s paid her about £10million just for her to ramble in my ear

don't limit it to nigeria alone oh you should grab the whole of Africa esp those that constantly attract tourists

LoverBwoy may God multiply your blessing 3times today. I actually resolved to start my training institute 3 years ago after receiving  some  eye opening revelations from attending a Gober Method course. Nna we go talk about weting we learn and how much Mary Gober charge, Hmmmmm. Infact i am still calculating after all these years.
Yes we intend to open in Ghana as well. Hopefully there will be a smooth take off. Thanks . lets talk later.
