Henry was an emotional man but he didn't have to open his gob precisely because Arsenal was not as bad as they are today.

Gallas's verbal incontinence effectively started when he joined Arsenal and is the natural consequence of the state of the club today. If Henry was still there, he would be saying the same thing

I disagree a bit, no one has problems with what Gallas has to say, we have problems in the way he goes about opening his Gob Tongue Tongue
TH14 was also an emotional person, BUT YOU HARDLY FLIPPING HEARD HIM CRITICISE HIS PLAYERS IN PUBLIC DID YOU Huh

Yes, we did.
Henry was worse than Gallas. . . . . .He made his team-mates look so inferior anytime he expects the ball and he doesn't get it.
There was a particular match Henry shook his head for Adebayor.

Quote
Gallas is too emotional and childish to have been given such a role, and this only points to Arsene's Tribal sentiments in the way he disposed of Gilberto, and how he has made the back 4 all french, thereby sidelining Kolo for Gallas's chum Silvestre.
If the captaincy isn't taken away from him,  then there will be a rift between the Frenchies and the other lads, thereby creating a scenario which mirrors what Cashley Cole and Sol Campbell felt towards the end of their stay at Arsenal.

He is still Arsenal's bravest player out there. . . . . . . .Others are buncha of wimps.
Gallas has got a SOUL, if there are 4 other players like him in y'all rubbish outfit, Stoke wouldn't have bullied y'all!!!

Quote
Anyways, i just hope the guys can rally round the new captain (If it happens to be true) and i hope that person is Cesc Fab4 Cool (HE WAS BORN READY FOR THE ROLE).

Cesc Fabregas?? The fact that he is easily Arsenal's best player does not make him a captain material.
I don't see Cesc fitting that role. . . . . .Wenger would eventually make Cesc a captain, not because he is suitable but to keep him at the Emirates.

You are finding trouble oh!? Cheesy Cheesy

As for Arsenal Huh How can you say Gallas's pertulance started when he came to Arsenal Huh I beg to differ, Gallas has always been opionated in every club he has ever played for. It's only a major issue now because he is Club captain and the media will swarm over everything he does and says Embarrassed Embarrassed

G Barry was punished by Martin O not because he wanted to leave, buit by the fact that as captain his need to run off to the media was absolute Bollocks Tongue Tongue

Roy Keane was tolerated till he broke the camel's back with that famous MUTV interview, and we all know what happened after that.

If Billy spoke upas a player, NO ONE WOULD GIVE 2 BOBS, BUT HE IS THE CLUB CAPTAIN FFS Huh A little decorum would have gone a long way. Even Zizou never spoke about his team mates as France captain (And it doesn't get any more emotional than the Algerian Frenchie Cheesy Cheesy).

No ex-player will even condone what Gallas did, no matter their club loyalty. ITS NOT DEFENDABLE IN ANY BOOK!!

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only

Gallas has absolutely no credibility to act as captain for three reasons:

1. He had the nerve to come out and discuss private dressing room issues in the press - complete suicide as far as the captaincy is concerned. A captain solves problems and projects a positive image, he is not doing that

Those making references to Roy Keane - what happened to him? He was unceremoniously shipped out - exactly what the 'oui oui muppet' deserves.

2. He cannot control his players - If someone (be it MOFO Eboue or Crazy RVP) could challenge him openly and insult him, he obviously doesn't have the team's respect. His comments basically sound like he felt helpless to do anything about it - he didn't inform the manager or get the issue dealt with, he simply came to the press and bleated about it.

3. He cannot take the heat - Terry made a right mess of things on Wednesday, so did Carson, but what did Terry do? Come out and DEFEND Carson and put all the blame on himself. Terry is a right c*nt as far as I'm concerned, but he still had the balls to stand up for his teammate and take the heat, but Gallas comes out and said he has to blame someone else cos he can't handle the blame all by himself - what an unrepentant self seeker.  Angry Angry

The 'captain' of a club is openly telling the press he doesn't know if he'll be at the club next season - he essentially says 'I' need to win something. The Arsenal part is simply an afterthought - that is completely unacceptable to me.

As far as I'm concerned he should be stripped of the captaincy - not a single Arsenal blog out there thinks he should retain it, and sold off at the nearest opportunity. If no one wants him, shred up his contract and pay him off - he is a toxic influence on Arsenal.  Angry

Now will AW own up and have the balls to fire him? I doubt it, like Winterburn said, it would probably undermine AW further at this point if he did that. Too many injuries (Kolo, Sagna and MOFO) means we need him to play at the moment.  I'm sure by Saturday or so we'll see the edited comments from Gallas saying he was misquoted and that he loves all his teammates.

With all this nonsense going on, I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's game with relish - sadly this mess just gets worse.

@ Loyiks

I hope they finally sort out this CEO business, it is an absolute disgrace that a club like Arsenal will not have a CEO for 6 months for a £200m turnover enterprise. He better be someone with enough balls to challenge AW and get him on his toes, allowing him to focus on footie fully instead of the end -all  be-all at Arsenal Football Club.

@ Debosky & Loyika,

Typical bloody Nigerians. . . . . .Always looking for someone to blame.
Arsene Wenger is to blame for fuckeva is happening at the Emirates.
If he had sorted out the transfer properly and buy good players to replace the ones that left the club, we wouldn't be here discussing this.
Gallas has one character that i like. . . . .He has a SOUL.
How many times have Gallas scored at the other end of the pitch when his team is taking a battering. . . .

Of course, He can go public and scold the undesirable elements at the Emirates.
His efforts are not appreciated. . . . . .His teammates are not doing their jobs.
The whole outfit is full of cracks n crevices.
Wenger is to blame as far as i am concerned.
His moronic ways and lack of leadership skills is spreading to his players.

Sharon Huh

First off, i said he never criticised them in public, i didn't say he never castigated them on the pitch (Doesn't he still do it at Barca Huh). Gallas grants interviews like Karren (Super Head) Steffans Tongue Tongue

As for Cesc Huh, Sharon its called giving a loyal player a chance. Cesc has been loyal, and nowits time for Arsene to repay that loyalty. I would have mentioed Kolo, but that would still continue the French connection Tongue

A Cesc Fab captaincy will gee up the lads.
A Cesc Fab captaincy would gee up the Fans.
A Cesc Fab captaincy would gee up the Press.
A Cesc fab captaincy would gee up Cesc Fab, FFS IT WOULD GEE UP THE WHOLE FLIPPING CLUB!!

It would be sort of like an "Obama Effect".

Cesc is ready!! GIVE IT TO HIM!! He is respected, he carries himself in the right way, he has reduced his pertulance, HE RESPECTS THE SHIRT AND THE GAFFER!!

Basically, right now Cesc Fab bleeds Arsenal Cool If Arsene had kept his crew around, he would be playing like we know him to.

Henry went downhill when his mates were sold off, NO PIRES, NO PADDY, NO BERGY? WAT THE FCUK!!

CESC FOR CAPTAIN NOW PLEASE!! Cool

I hope he gets it Cool

@ Debosky & Loyika,

Y'all Gaynners make me sick. . . . .All these criticisms on Gallas is missing the pointz like a free throw shot.

Gallas came to the Gaynners from Chelski where he was playing in a winning team and joined a team that was supposed to compete for honours.
Instead he has found himself at a club going nowhere fast, a club that is happy to rake in the cash and shortchange its fans with meaningless promises of a brighter future.
He tells the manager and the players that they have to grow up and stop playing like schoolboys if they want to be champions and nobody listens.

So why shouldn't he speak in public?
It is so much easier to just take the money and say nothing, I for one think he should be applauded for calling it the way it is.
The fact is that the gunners style of play is not amateurish. And frankly it is not Arsenal football.
In the 02/03 season I remember Alan Smith writing in the telegraph about Arsenal and saying that the current team plays like Tottenham.
Which was the biggest insult you could give an Arsenal player. But that lot didn't get it. And this lot don't. Because Wenger just doesn't get it.

Cesc as Arsenal's captain??. . . . . . .I would rather have Silvestre. Grin

So y'all have de-captained Gallas for speaking his mind eh? So not fair oh. If the man wasn't removed for all his blunders and his less than exemplary lifestyle(which wlda been a better reason IMO), why should he be removed now for speaking the truth?
Its not like he blabs about what goes on in the dressing room every morning for crying out loud. Not fair to the man.

I would even prefer Eboue over Gallas now - the dude would slap anyone who had the nerve to question his diving.  Tongue

Gallas is simply a diva queen who prefers to mouth off rather than give action on the pitch.

This is not a matter of blaming Gallas for everything - RVP has scored 8 goals, Ade has scored 8 goals - Gallas in defence has conceded 9 goals in 5 league games recently, lets not even count the rest, and he is not to blame for those goals?  Huh

The attack scored 4 goals against Spurs, he was incompetent enough not to stop any of the Spurs goals, ditto for Hull, Fulham and Villa - he is as much to blame as anyone else - especially because he is the captain. Captains seeks solutions and don't blame others saying 'I can't take all the blame'. Terry showed him what is expected from a captain, not excuse making and completely escapism from a vainglorious hasbeen who wants to leave the club.

The best player to be captain now is Gael Clichy - his form has been poor, but his commitment level is the highest, the only better first team player is Sagna, but he isn't vocal enough right now. Cesc would be overburdened, so I don't want him given this task now.

"Nigel Winterburn, the former Arsenal defender, criticised Gallas for his outburst. "I'm very disappointed with Gallas' comments," he said. "We all know arguments happen at half-time and full-time in any game, not just at Arsenal, and they're dealt with inside the club.

"It doesn't need the captain to come out and tell the world players have fallen out - that can be good, it shows they care and are not prepared to accept defeat. He actually said one team-mate is being disruptive, which puts the suspicion of blame on four or five players. He hasn't come out and named the player."

Graham Taylor, the former England and Aston Villa manager, said Wenger should strip Gallas of the captaincy. "He knows what he's looking for as a leader," he said. "If he feels that Gallas isn't doing that then he's wrong if he continues with him. A manager of Arsene Wenger's calibre knows what makes a good captain. I'm surprised that he has stuck with Gallas."

Are u saying if u put John Terry in Wikki Tourists, his team would not concede shiploads of goals??
Gallas is a world class defender playing with school boys . . . . . .That is where the problem lies.
It has nuthing to do with Gallas' defensive abilities. No world class defender would flourish with no DECENT holding midfielder to protect him.
I still believe Arsene Wenger should carry 100% of the blame.

For all the deification of Wenger it is interesting to note that Arsenal have won nothing since Vieira left.
I for one would argue that the successful Wenger sides achieved what they did not because of the manager.
With warriors like Petit, Ray Parlour, Vieira, Adams, Keown etc they were able to overcome the managers philosophical nonsensities.

With these kids there's no chance of that happening.
Maybe the reason why Wenger doesn't want experienced players in the squad is that they might just tell him he is a serial WANKER.
I mean even Brazil had to compromise to win the WC in 94 and 02.
The all out stylish Brasilian teams like 82 and 98 won ZILCH just like this Arsenal team.

Anywayz, I already said Toure is most suitable for the post. He is calm, sensible, hardworking(forget the slip-ups), and his heart is with the club. He is normally a responsible fellow, and making him skipper will only increase his sense of responsibility.  .  .prob'ly make him want to become exemplary or be a hero, whichever Grin  Also he doesn't hesitate to reasonably speak up when there's injustice without being violent.
I think he would be the most sensible choice.

@Debo

Eboue as captain? One day he would get so mad and believe hez got sufficient authority to slap the ref, and he will too Grin Hez too hot-headed and too much of a diver to be an inspirational captain. Besides, his own errors are nearly as famous as William's.

Clichy woulda been a good choice but he is too quiet. He only flares up when absolutely provoked, otherwise hez calm. Not good for that kinda person to be a captain. He would overlook every injustice 'cause he would want to avoid trouble. That sure won't inspire unquestionable loyalty from his teammates.
Besides, his own goals will increase in speed and frequency if he is captain Grin

Choose wisely.  .  .Arse Election 08/09.  .  .Toure for Skipper Grin

Eboue coulda been ma choice because of his flawless British accent but his diving skills are top-draw.
I am willing to bet he would give Michael Phelps a run for his money.
This might be the end of William Gallas' career at the Emirates.
