I did the whole process on page one. Anyways.. let's move on. I'll ask my friend's brother that's in grade 5 to teach me.  Smiley

i don't know proof too.. will u do that and ask the next question?

Okay ill ask the next question. Kamakaula will answer proof when he comes.

use almighty formula to solve

2x2-4x+2 = 0

I just saw this post:

kamakula am sorry to bust your bubble but your answer is wrong!

(2 7/9) 1/2= 5/3 or 1 2/3
how its done:
first change (2 7/9) into an improper fraction which is 25/9

then 1/2 means squareroot..u feel me?

therefore its gon be √- sqareroot of 25/9 which is 5/3:
25-5
9-3
so answer is 5/3 or 1 2/3

do u get it ? Roll Eyes

You are seriously telling me that 2^(7/9) can be turned into an improper fraction?  Where do you get that?  2^(7/9) is 2 raised to the seventh power then you take the ninth root.

here is a simple example (2^2)^2 = 2^(2*2) = 2^4.
don't believe me?  2^2 = 4 and 4^2 = 16.  2^4 = 16.  Use your improper fraction thing and tell me if you get the same thing.

Also by definition: 1 raised to any power = 1.  1^(2/3) = 1, NOT 5/3
------------------------------

And there was a mistake in my question at the endso don't worry about it.

As to the hot-angel's question . . .

2x2 - 4x + 2 = 0   (divide both sides by two)
x2 - 2x + 1 = 0 (lets see. .what can i factor)
(x - 1)(x - 1) = 0 (yes, I've solved it)
x = 1 (a double root at x == 1)!

The only time you need to use the solution to a quadratic equation is when the roots are not whole numbers.  Otherwise, you can always figure it out without having to use the equation.

kamakula.. i said using almighty formula.. not factorization method.  Smiley

And ermm.. u can use almighty formular (quadratic formula) Anytime.. anywhere, to solve any quadractic equation. That's why it's called ALMIGHTY! It answers every quadractic equation.

umm,

hot angel. . .

if i said the only time you NEED to wash your hands is when they are dirty, does that mean I said you can ONLY wash your hands when they are dirty?

Reread what I said - i did not say you CANT use the solution all the time, I only said you only NEED to use it when solutions are not nice whole numbers.

i was trying to come up with good ones .. . not just easy step by step solution types. ..

I guess i can do something else now.

Question;

               Edygirl is 3times as old as her sister chigirl. Five years from now, Edygirl will be twice as old as Chigirl. How old is each now?

Edygirl is fifteen now while chigirl is 5.
In five years time edygirl will be twenty while chigirl will be twenty!

Niceguy,
                          I am kind of confused. By gradient did you mean to differenciate ? And again Is this x to power 3 and 3x to power 2?
       Anyways if that is ,what it is, then the answer to the equation is :
     3x to power 2  plus 9x to power 2 plus 2.     5 when differenciated  will be zero,  If that is not the answer let us know it's been so long I did maths.

Anyone, anybody, everyone, everybody try this simple one:
Q- Find a point on the y-axis that is equidistant from (5,-5) and (1,1)

Hint: you don't need to plot a graph, just minor calculation.

Nil  Grin
A: (5,-5) and (1,1)           D(5,-5)= [(5-0)^2+(-5-y)^2]^1/2=[5^2+(y+5)^2]^1/2
                                        D(1,1)= [(1-0)^2+(1-y)^2]^1/2=[1^2+(y-1)^2]^1/2
therefore [5^2+(y+5)^2]^1/2=[1^2+(y-1)^2]^1/2
                 5^2+(y+5)^2=1^2+(y-1)^2
                25+(y^2+10y+25)=1+(y^2-2y+1)
                12y=-48
                 y=-4
                Ans=(0,-4)
