What Kind Of Braids Are These? by LoveAlways(f): 11:13am On Nov 19, 2008
Hello,  I normally dislike braid styles, because they weaken the strand and cause hair breakage.  But I REALLY like this style of braiding.

What is the name of this braid style?

How much?

Can I have my hair braided like this in America -- Chicago?

Thanks in advanced.

Yes, please explain.  These are the most beautiful braids I've ever seen.  I've never seen braids like this in the states.  They look very sexy, neat, classy and versatile.   smiley Very exotic, I like that.

I wonder, how long do they last?

How do you care for them?

Is that synthetic hair? Or thread?

Does it move and have a lot of body and bounce?

Tell me everything (laughing) I like for my hair to move, or sway when I walk (laughing)
Re: What Kind Of Braids Are These? by cuteness01: 2:02pm On Nov 19, 2008
carried mine for 2months, (i'm a student, lol grin).i clean my scalp with "spirit",,,that way,it won't itch, then i use hairspray.and yes,,they bounce, smiley sometimes i spray hair glitter, to give it an extra shine. it is synthetic hair(attachments) the type used 4 making regular braids.

HOW TO MAKE;-
start like u're making "pick and drop"(braid like 4cm then tie)
after making all, take 4 or 5 braids and twist,
twist all, then put d hair in very hot water(be careful wt ur scalp!!)
undo d twists, and ur hair comes out as water melon!! wink

@lovealways

yeah. its called ''water melon''. they are made just as cuteness1 described. however, it is more ''curly'' when two/three braids are twisted rather than four/five. besides the fewer braids twisted, the longer it lasts. personally, i prefer jet black (colour 1). i have once tried a cross between hot wine and blonde  grin . came out nice!

the trick to getting this hairdo done properly is the ''twisting'' of the braids (from the base of the scalp) . . . before inserting it into very hot water and also the ''untwisting'' after removing it from the hot water . . .

to ensure the hairdo last longs, make sure your stylist applies hair styling gel (good ones not the ones that will leave the braids flaky), hair oil, moose and hair spray. Apply hair oil say twice a week. . . this way it maintains its shine and styling gel about one a week. . ,  the braids will remain neat and you wont have strands sticking out.

it is one of my most favourite hairdo and if properly done, you can have it on for over two months  grin

If you want the version that ''bounces'', there is a special type of hair rollers that will be used to curl the braids, hot water is poured carefully on it and then your head is placed under a hair-dryer to dry. Its similar to ''pick and drop'' but no twisting involved. Just incase you pop into Lagos, visit ''make-me salon''.  the are experts with the 'bouncy version'.

~When you say "twisted" Do you mean done like french braid?  undecided b/c thats how i know its done before putting it in hot water to get the desired effect of curls!

~Next time i braid, will defo try the spritz for the itching, thats the part i hate the most w/ braids, itchy scalp!!

@ Funkybaby -good tips on the hair gel, hair oil & hair spray -i have only used mousse, defo looking forward to try your tips wink

Its not a twist. You get that look by dipping the twist into hot water and loosening it to get the spirals. smiley

I wanted to ask, when you say you used wine, black and gold, what colour should I be thinking of when you say wine
I want to braid them, but cant decide on colour, is it written on the pack embarassed undecided
Re: What Kind Of Braids Are These? by Diva1(f): 5:30am On Jul 21, 2009
I remember back in Nigeria, this hairstyle called "pick and drop". Just braid the top a little, then leave the rest. Afterwards, twist/braid them in large and put in hot water. Loosen it. That's how I used to do mine.

Depends on the kind of hair attachment you want. Most of them come in colour codes and I think by wine, she meant deep auburn or something.

~Burgundy is the name you're looking for. . usually the hair colour is listed in Numbers followed by a Letter or Numbers on the park. . For example 1B,27,33 . . in cases wherein the hair extension comes in mixed colours You'll have 1B/30 1B/Burgs written on the park! however depending on the company Name /Brand,the colours differ

You shud be able to identify the colour you want when you see it.if you're in doubt always ask for assitant for pen the colour hair you're meant to buy. . hope this helps!
