I have gotten my phones stolen twice and lost on one occasion.

This is my experience. The First phone i used in my life is Motorola Timeport. I lost it at a police checking point. I placed it on my lap carelessly and when we were ordered out for stop and search in the night, it dropped. I made effort to call my fone later but it has bn switched off.

The second fone dropped into the water at the beach and stopped working even after drying it. I kept it in the pocket of my jacket at home and it developed wings and dissappeared.

But the way my last fone got stolen is a lesson which i think all of us should share, so that we can watch it in future.
In Lagos now, distraction is the tool for stealing Mobile phones.
It was a peaceful evening as I was driving home from the office after a long days work. I almost got home when i received a call and i thought since I'm almost at my destination I should just ignore it. I left my two phones on the seat besides me in the hold up. The light on my phone attracted these phone robbers, and they used the distraction method for me.

One Okada rider just crossed my vehicle and hit my vehicle's body on the drivers side with his hand and said "Oga, your fuel is leaking". I got distracted for a minute and the next minute the two fones on my side was gone. How it happened I don't know. It was so fast that I had to laugh at myself. I thought I was smart until these happened. I felt so stupid. "WON LO T'EKO FUNMI".

Share your experience too, so that others can learn from your mistake or carelessness.

Nope just not into carrying bags and purses, but regarding the topic, my bros have lost their phones and my phone couple of times. . . Last one was even funny, we were at this island, first day we went somewhere and on the way back to our lodgings, my bro was like damn i left my phone, thankfully we were still going to go that way again and a kind soul kept the phone for my bro. Couple of days later, we went snorkeling, omo my bro go swimming with his phone, i laff tire eh, now he's without a phone and i hope the next phone he gets he'll take care of it lol grin

A common one sha is him loosing his phone in the taxi, it will just slip out of his pocket and later he will just check his pocket and just see that the phone is not there. Another incident happened to my friend, it was a pool party, he just put his phone down and was talking to ppl, b4 hin look back, pesin don move the phone. Actually i have lots of stories on phones lost by friends lol
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by Seye(m): 12:52pm On Aug 05, 2006
This was a friend's experience. He got hugged by someone and in the next minute the fone and money was gone. The guy showed up from nowhere hugged my friend and apologised later that he thought my friend was someone he knows. Its like he cast a spell on my friend for some period of time. He realised minutes later that he's been robbed.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by iice(f): 12:57pm On Aug 05, 2006
Damn that was fast. . . Ok this happened to my aunt, she was in public transport, she had her bag on her lap, the bag was opened a bit just enuff to show that there's some sort of phone in the bag, she wasnt paying attention because sitting across her, a girl was saying she has been robbed that her money in her pocket was gone. So my aunt and the rest of the ppl were trying to analyze what happened, who were the ppl sitting close to the girl and have alrdy dropped out. My aunt reached her destination, got out of the car and looked into her bag to txt some1 only to find out that her phone was no more there. A nasty situation was were one of my friends almost got stabbed because they were trying to take her phone, she had to relinquish it or be stabbed.

Mine happened like two months ago.I had just gotten back from the gym early inthe morning by around 7am so decided to chill out in front of my house with my brothers. It had been a while since I had indulged in akara and bread so as the vendor passed,I called her and bought some.We ate it outside because not many people were about then. Some minutes later,we entered inside,2minutes after,I recalled that I had forgotten my phone at the gate,I ran to retrieve it but alas!!!it was no more there!!! I did not know what to do with myself,I felt so bad.I was like dumbfounded. So much for eating akara and bread!!!

Mine happened on public transport, the packed tubes in london you know at rush hour, as I stood up to get off the trainn someone thiefed my beloved D600 from my pocket. I hadn't realised until I got off the train. Upset and with my dismay my friends and family started ringing me at home that evening, they insisted that a man that had found my phone and wanted to give it back to me, thanking my lucky stars I was soo happy that there were honest people in the world. I rang my phone for days until one day the thief finally answered, he starting questioning me, asking me stupid questions like how much my phone was worth to me as I could afford such a nice phone, he kept on trying to get £200 for it. I thought why should I pay for a phone which was free to me when I signed a contract, so I locked the phone off. The thing was my insurance cover for the phone had just expired a month earlier so me thinking that I was being clever decided not to renew it and what for my phone upgrade. Like an idiot I guess.

You mean people can actually steal your fone and still call you to negotiate. That's rather strange. Here in Lagos, once stolen, just forget it.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by Shinor(m): 12:30pm On Aug 07, 2006
@seye. Dem dey negotiate for las gidi too O. Only say when time reach make you come collect am na that time wahala go yazo. Cos you dont know what to expect. reminds me of the satelite tracking company in Lagos who traced a car to a property behind Marwa gardens recently. Old boy when dem wan go check out the place, na the whole police wey dey lagos na im dem carry go just incase na Shinor Rambo open the door. The stolen car was actually found within the premises of a respectable member of society.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by Seye(m): 12:36pm On Aug 07, 2006
grin. If its my fone. I wont show up. I'll rather employ an area boy who understand their language. That is if the fone is very expensive. If not, i'll bid the fone byebye. like u said you never know what to expect. or rather i'll invite him to Mr Biggs or something and there we can talk.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by iice(f): 12:38pm On Aug 07, 2006
LOL@invite him to mr. biggs cheesy
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by Seye(m): 12:46pm On Aug 07, 2006
Yes but that will depend on his tone of conversation. If he's a rash fellow you'll know in his tone of voice.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by snazzydawn(f): 12:55pm On Aug 07, 2006
Funny enough,it was a girl that picked my phone. because after some days,I tried calling my line and surprisingly,it rang and a girl picked it.I was surprised that she had not thrown the line away yet.I wonder why I have not retrieved my number.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by Seye(m): 2:03pm On Aug 07, 2006
It must have been his brother that stole it and dashed it out to her. girls do have the guts to steal things like fones.
Re: Your Phone Stolen? Share Your Experience by hayo(m): 3:35pm On Aug 07, 2006
I have quite some experience, thrice beaten

1. I was inside a bus one day in July 2004 and there was this guy sitting beside me. At a point I felt he was so restless and he got down one bust stop before mine. When I got down, I checked and my phone was nowhere to be found.
2. Late 2004, I closed late one day from work and it was as if they were waiting for me to pass. I was robbed by three guys and my initial reaction was to fight back but when I saw the steel, I quenched.
3. Just last month at a friend's wedding, inside a church, I was excited to see friends from long ago; lo and behold the phone was lifted clean from me. I knew immediately but who I go arrest? Painfully the phone is a P910i, so you can feel my agony. That phone was like heaven for me 'cos I use it for a lotta things.

Another method they use is to pretend as if you wronged them, like they step on your toes and claim that you were the one that stepped on them. They will want to fight you and in the course, remove your phone, simple as ABC. God help us in Lagos but the truth is there a lotta jobless young men around and until they are engaged this will continue.

I have lost my phone twice. And on the two occasion I recovered it. First is on a taxi, after calling my phone for over 2 hrs. The driver picked and told me to come and pick my phone.

The second one, I lost it in a bus. A lady banker picked, who later started demanding for some goodies. I recovered that one two.

Imagine the one I lost and could not recover. A phone sent to me from Uk, which is inside a pack in my room. It grow wings and disappeared. I opened my windows so that it can fly back after the picnic, but no way.

Disappeared without trace, right in my house, in my room.

Well, my fone was stolen from me once on Falomo bridge. Every one who stays on the Island in Lagos knows that place is dangerous. It happend last year, we had a flat tyre and stopped to change it when, yes, the guys on okada came for a visit. My husband was on the outside and I was inside the car with the baby. My hubby said I should lock the car from the inside. Well they were four and they had this giangantic hammers which they used to break the car window(with me and the baby inside) and they took my bag and everything in it. It was an awfull experience.
