I really sympathize wit those of us dat got into d market @ the wrong time. I made 1 or 2 blunders in terms of equities i purchased (Transcorp). I purchased this equity based on the business it was supposed to have gotten involved in at dat time (Oil Exploration, Tourism,NITEL and Oil refining). Boy was i wrong, no sooning the government changed everything came crashing. They started losing everything. I lost abt 70 -80% of the funds i invested in that equity when i bailed out. My guy na now i go take this investing rule of thumb serious a company must have at least 5 yr financial record b4 that company should be considered as an investment. Checkout Transcorp now infact dem don lose their only serious money spinner NITEL. my guy. Its actually sad some of ma friends after hearing my exploits jumped into the mrket too and my friend, they lost money to technical suspensions, 100k rule and all sorts of stuffs. some of them wouldnt listen to me even if i tell them GTB will be sold for 1k. I dont blame anybody for running from the market now, the only thing ill advise is for people not to get carried away when investing. know the rules, abide by the rules and quit if the rules aint working The idea is to make/preserve your money, not to lose money! |

My guy i don learn my lesson. i just have to stick to my principles. i will be hosting a free web seminar on personal financial planning soon to emphasize the importance of having a plan in place before investing in the stockmarket. when i put everything in place i go send u an invitation. I know dis market slide will continue for a while until investor confidence picks up again. My guy can u imagine buying GTB for N11.26 (Monday's closing price) and it pays N 0.95 dividend. Na 8.44% dividend yield be dat. Den just add 13% capital gain na approximately after everything cool 20% total return be dat for 1 year oh. See oceanic bank and fidelity dem dey seriously undervalued. Rumour dey say N 1.30 per share for Oceanic Bank and dat Intercontinental Bank go experience so hard times cos of some monies invested the the stock market by the bank itself and add dat to loans granted to customers u can now imagine.
Fitch (The U.S based credit rating agency) don warn nigerian banks as regards to dividend payout couple dat to the NDIC warning as regards to some of our banks dem health. The word na cautious optimism. Currently i dey look at some serious growth equitie outside banking.

@sleekdoc The insurance sub-sector has been and still is one of the hardest hit sectors on the stock exchange. Based on its current price level i would want to believe they are now undervalued but during the public offer era most of those stocks were issued to investors at overvalued prices. I see a couple of undervalued prospects now. I would like to advice dat b4 u plunge do some kind of research on the companies u intend to buy using the criteria i have listed below: Read the companies most recent financial report (Annual Report) Compare current quarterly earnings with corresponding period in prior year ( www.fsdhsecurities.com ) Compare current annual earnings with prior yearend ( www.fsdhsecurities.com) Earnings growth rate of 25% or more What growth rate in earnings has been in recent years? Is expansion speeding up or slowing down. Investigate the companies product/service. About Management and their shareholding in the company. Shareholding structure High and increasing return on equity Don't expect much in terms of dividend payout. Your target should be capital gains. Investment horizon should be put at 2- 3 years. But if your target capital gain is hit in a short period sell and look for some other equities to invest in. Caution is the watch word. Invest wisely not just because they are cheap. |

I spent 200,000 my husband gave me to keep for completion of our house rent in December, 2008 on stock market. I wanted to surprise him by making double of the money he gave me but end up losing 3/4 of it. I bought NEM 20,900 units for 4.13, and 20,000 units Firstalum 5.42, when I sold NEM it was 1.90 and lost 2.23. The Firstalum there was no buyer to buy it. I did not how to tell my husband that the money he gave me for the completion of our house rent is no more. I finally told him after selling the NEM because I did not know how to raise the money I had to open up to him. It was so painful to him cos I did not discuss with him before investing in stock but I told him I wanted to surprise him. I learnt my lessons never to take any decision that will affect the family alone. I will not invest money that is meant for something on stock again but money that I don't have need for, for atleast 4 years.

The placement was done for less than N3 and recently SEC just approved the IPO for Q1 this year. guess how much its gonna be listed N20!!!. even if its just a million i dropped, im sure u can do a mental calculation of how much that is. My organisation even gave loans to staff to buy. Those are the kind of calculated buys i do. I did GTA too and im still waiting for when they will be listed. @sleekdoc my oga i go give u just 3 stocks make u research further. 1. Guinness Nigeria Dividend yield: 7.48%, forward P.E ratio: 8.65, Industrial Ave P.E ratio: 10.6 2. GTBank Plc Dividend yield:9.82%, forward P.E ratio: 5.65, Industrial Ave. P.E ratio:10.3 and 3. Flourmills Nig Plc Dividend yield:4.39%, forward P.E ratio: 4.44, Industrial Ave. P.E ratio:12.5. Going by the numbers provided these stocks are cheap and dey have very sound fundamentals. But like i said 4 u to enjoy good returns on these equities your investment horizon should be between 3-5 years considering current market sentiment. |

N20 too much for an Integrated energy coy that will play through the entire value chain? Like i said b4, the O& G happened to be the only sector that grew last year. a feat that the banking sector couldnt achieve. The only prob in the market is that investors confidence is at the lowest ebb and that definitely might take a toll on the stock. of course, ill take some profits and leave the rest to grow with them. It may interest u to know that they are as ambitious as Zenon and co, they were part of the people who bidded to buy Chveron Nigeria. The MD is young and well experienced and i bet it, hes gonna move the coy forward. as per your IV, no probs man, ill be there to see wassup |

i believe every family must have checks in almost all financial matters. my wife is permitted to spend her money as she likes but not permitted to spend the family money without consultation. before the feminist brigade starts trowing tantrum she is a do gooder by nature. she only need to hear some sob story. hope you get some money to sort out the short fall |

I have been eyeing the Nigerian stock market for about 2 years, bought some shares in the middle of the boom and held on the a little too long. when the stocks rose to their peaks, we all held on to our stocks still hoping for further rise in the stocks only for them to bounce back. We still held on thinking that is just temporary. now the stocks are almost one fifth of what they used to be. I am still not looking forward to selling, because there is actually no point selling right now after all the lost. the best thing is to hold on and hope for a recovery. it pathetic that alot of ppl are sufferin from crowd mentality-they say dis stock go rise buy and u buy.i personally made alot of money last year,and am continuing dis yr tho with alot of caution.how on earth should u watch stock start sliding from march08 without taking action.the truth is figures dont lie-u saw index sliding and u still listened to all manners of analyst.who do not even own shares worth a million naira.hogwash.
if u r buying shares now, with long term in mind,then have a pic of 3-5yrs.but if you are short term player,work with bid and offer sizes.check fibonacci out.with these you are 99% sure of making money.there's no altternative in making money from our complex stockmarket
