My advice is don't even think of living in London, London is congested, i see people!!! and more people!!! Renting a house there will cost you a fortune, too many people competing for the limited facilities there.

Nigerians should sit in their country and find something worthwhile to do if they know they can't afford to go to the UK to study. The Western countries are looking for professionals now, they are outsourcing most of their jobs to Asian countries where they can get cheap labor (I guess thats why my ipod reads designed in California, Assembled in China). If the size of the chinese labor force was small, I know China would be full of Nigerians but we know that if we go to China where there is cheap labor we won't be looked at cos we Nigerians are not skilled and not cheap and they already have their hands full with a lot of people. Jobs are gradually disappearing from the Western Countries and are being replaced with highly skilled and professional jobs and where do you expect a Nigerian man whose Professor in the university cannot use a computer to fit into this kind of market. Lets go get this knowledge in the European and North American countries, come back to Nigeria and turn it into a China. There's cheap labor too in Nigeria

you all seem to be talking to urselves,
its hard to tell people not to come to the UK when u are still there, if its so bad what are u doing.
this advice would have more credit it if the pips that got there w/thout papers were the ones talking, and if the same people came back home.
please all that talk about not wanting to disappoint people back home, if its so hard for you just come back.
be honest , the only reason why they are not coming back is because they feel 'e go better' andd wouldn't they? they see other Nigerians living better and am sure they are just waiting it out till they can make their status legal

@omogenaija
i don't think thats true, its not that they cant afford to come its the guts to come back with nothing, its the disappointment in peoples faces.
i mean people give u the look of failure
if someone dropped 2 bombs in england and threatened more, the same people will find money to come back pronto.
Nigeria is hard but there are opportunites, to help others just suffering in silence in London we need to make them aware of what they can do in Nigeria so eventually they can make longterm or shortterm plans to come back. I know many friends that did just

QUOTE FROM ENOLASEYou must have a UK degree or job experience in order to get a good job in the UK.
Anyone leaving Nigerian for the UK should do so using a student visa (in essence, registering for a degree)
This guarantees an automatic work permit (max of 20 working hours a week).
Once you are through with your degree, there will be more than enough jobs.
But if you jump out straight to the UK with no Uk degree or job experience, then forget it. You go really suffer! Have u ever live in UK before?

enolase, all well said, there could be openings for you once you're through wiv your degree programme but that's another kettle of fish entirely. nobody should ever get it in to their heads that they're going to come to this country and be able to "live happily ever after forever and ever", No!
personally, i have this pet idea that the entire system here is rigged to remind you that u're not back home in nigeria and u best get back there, Its really funny that guys in 9ja think u're trying to gate 'em when u tell 'em the odds but i think its best that everybody should take their chances the way it comes to them

Some of us are coming as tourist , don't give UK a bad name, When they give people 6months visa without work permit, they go ask u say are u financially capable, only for them to go there and be tryin to take what is not their own - UK jobs. and spend 6 years on 6 months visa, How do u expect things to be easy when a person is an illegal? If many of us stick to the terms of our visa, I guess things would have been easier for people with genuine work permits (no be oluwole o)

This is strictly for the UK, our economy in the USA is on fire, 5.6% GDP 4.7% Unemployment in the first quarter and first half respectively, inflation is under check, and manufacturing is plugging along just fine. Even Illegal Aliens are working for some good change. Please leave the USA out of this.

social work is huge in the U.K and jobs are available BUT contary to what most people think, You have to look for work it will be a good idea to seek advce and even top up to get the feel of social work in the uk so be prepared to gain experience before thinking of management as a masters degree holder i dont think u need to be reminded that the capital is one of the most expensive cities to live in so dont be one of those stating the obvious- bills bills bills GOODLUCK

no, but seriously, everybody's situation is different. when i came here, i never dreamed that i could work at a fast food restaurant. i was like me ke? tufiakwa! but i realized with time that aint nobody going to pay my bills but me, so i had to at least start from somewhere. coming from naija with little or no work experience, you didnt get a good job automatically (unless you know people with connections). you dont get that much respect working these dead end jobs at the beginning, but you just have to suck it up, think positive and never forget where you're going. others are lucky enuff to land good jobs soon as they get here. everyones situation is different, so people, be open mimded and be prepared to work hard. simple as a pimple

No jokes now! For a cleaning job. they ask for experience For sales job, atleast 1yr of sales experience even in dem indian shops talkless of bigger places. The only common job advert u'll see now is "DRIVERS WANTED" and you might end up driving some 8.5 tuns. Any job u apply for, you must drop your CV, NI and reference sometimes. If you want to register for a job with a job agency, you must show your passport so don't even go there if you don't have a work permit. It's not easy honestly. If you don't have a job before coming, just sit your arss back home but if you insist, carry chop money with you for safety like donmayor said.
