Save Our Souls: Biafra Republic still has supporters!
« on: May 10, 2005, 05:31 PM »

Do you know about the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB)?  They are a group of Nigerians based in the US who seem to want a repeat of Nigeria's 1977 civil war!  They want to separate South-Eastern Nigeria and create a new country called Biafra.

Well, these people called a rally last Sunday (8May 2005), in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state, disguised as a Christian revival meeting,  The "revival" featured preachers who prophesied about the secession of south-eastern Nigeria and urged their audience to fight for a separate state!

Anyway, the "revival" was interrupted by truckloads of policemen who swooped on the venue firing tear gas into the meeting hall and shooting into the air.  They arrested 126 of the participants while 42 escaped with various injuries.

On Monday, 80 of them (including 4 women and 2 teenagers) were charged to court for reasonable felony, unlawful assembly. conducting themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by holding a meeting called “MASSOB”, and disturbing the peace of the town.

(In a related report, 53 people were arrested last year for participating in a soccer tournament organised in the name of Biafra.  They are currently facing trial.)

Why do some people insist on doing things that can destabilize the country?  Do they want to die in war? Huh

SEUN dear , i thank u for that question. but, it the questions can really be answered by the real enemies of nigeria. And thy the people who are marginalising the Igbos. After the civil war, the nigerian soide led by Gowon told us VICTOR, NO VANQUISHED. But, what are we seeing today, the Igbos are still been marginalised. u know it fully well. i don't need to start mension them. It memories of the marginalization that it is making the Igbos to cry for biafra.. Ojukwu even said the other day--' i am more nigeria than SO MANY PEOPLE WHO HATE THE BIAFRANS.Afterall, among those who fought the nigerian independence, most were easterners---check ur history.

in case u don't know, i love nigeria more than any place but the situation of things here sometimes makes me to force myself to fight for biafra even when i may not have gun. Someone once said, " THEY SAID THE WAR HAS ENDED BUT I SAY, IT IS A LIE BECAUSE, THE SHOOTING HAS ENDED BUT THE WAR IS STILL GOING ON BECAUSE WHAT LED TO THE WAR, IS STILL HAPPENING". [Let what happened betw china and Taiwan be a lesson to us. Cry

@Seun the hoopla is not justified. You have 126 supporters in a country of 120 million people. thats not something to be scared of. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion so if they feel they want biafra fine. put them on a boat and send them to the gulf of benin. they can't create their own state on the water.

@doncnn   they exist because the grievances they are talking about exist in reality. we all know about the marginalisation issue but u people marginalise yourselves too. you backstab all in the name of advancement.

Look, [doncnn], forget about Biafra and think about moving Nigeria forward.  You had more supporters in the 1960's than now.  So if you did not actualise your dream then when you were popular won't it be too difficult for you now that you and your bidding is unpopular?

People who were victims then are now wiser and are not ready to loose their relations anymore.  The pains are still there boldly written on their faces.  Did you watch Oputa panel?  Did you hear your people?  If not, I advise you to look for the tape [and watch it].

LAGOS (Reuters) - A Nigerian court has thrown out treason and conspiracy charges against 53 people who were arrested after playing football at a tournament organised by a separatist group, court papers showed on Wednesday.

But the court said 28 of the players would face a lesser charge of belonging to an illegal organisation, the Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), which is seeking peaceful secession for the region.

That is encouraging. Wanting to kill people because they were holding a football march in support of Biafra is uncivilized and kudos to the court for recognising that. Treasonable offence must be more than merely belonging to an illegal organisation since it carries death penalties. Shame on the prosecutors.

I can only compare those clamouring for a separate state of Biafra as people that hav nothing tangible to do and they think by becoming an independent state they will be able to help themselves to a political office in the new state.

Revolts like this is always happening in all the countries of the world, Nigeria is not an exception. Even in the US of A, some people are crying for the break away of Texas, citing the fact that they were once an autonomous state.

Ibos should try to form a coalation to see themselves become the President of this country. War mongering can't help them in achieving their goals.

Anybody who says Ibos don't want democracy or that they don't cherish the unity of Nigeria should be deeply ashamed of themselves.
I am not an Ibo, but deeply sympathise with their cause and perceived persecution.
It beats me hollow to see people crying wolf just because a section of the community says they are getting tired of an ''unprofitable' relationship and want to take their destiny in their hands
It is a known fact that , most parts of the country hate the guts of the  Ibos, yet you want them to stay with you
And ask .......WHAT FOR?
Let us hear the voices of Ibos too, of enraged people who can not lay claim to the presidency, who have lost their sons, property and pride at the slightest provocation in the hands of  other sections of the country.
People who must be seen and not heard.
Please, if they want to go...........let them go peacefully, you have enough land, people and wealth to sustain you without them.
That is self determination.

Those Ibos that want to leave Nigeria are free to do so, but all I know is that the land and the oil belong to Nigeria.

So if the Biafran supporters are willing to leave the land of Eastern Nigeria and go to outer space a new land which the lord shall show them, they are free.  This will leave more living space for the Igbos, Efiks, Ijaws, Itsekiris, Ibibios who prefer to live in Eastern Nigeria.  So those who want to leave are free to leave and they have always been free.

Who told you we wish to live with the rest of Nigeria including the Yorubas, ibos, hausas and fulanis?
They  love our land and not the people.
All they are interested in is the Oil and what it can buy for them and their children.
How much of Federal presence is felt in the land that lays the Golden Egg?
We are your servants, lepers, good for nothing when it comes to sharing federal largess.
The Almighty God shall save his people someday.
And we shall be free in our mother land.

i did not know that MASSOB main priority is to secede but seun take it easy o. which one is this the land and oil belong to nigeria?  proceeds from any mineral wealth should be used to develop our nation generally while placing an extra emphasis on the areas wherein lies this wealth. As one of my lecturers said, no road in nigeria is supposed to have pot holes and neither are we supposed to have any power failure because of the enormous wealth we derive from sale of crude.

@otokx - you are wondering why the oil and land belongs to Nigeria and why that is their primary interest.

In Nigeria,
you, your brothers, sisters, parents, relations, neighbours and indeed human life do not amount to ....anything.

As long as you and yours can be sucked, drained, exploited, used, bastardised..... then they are happy.
It is the reason your welfare is not taken into consideration when allocating money to your university or community. Whether you have a hostel or place of abode is none of their business.
Your feeding does not concern them. As long as you can be robbed, stolen dry and emasculated for them to feed fat.
When people die due to pot holes on the road.... it doesn't bother them. They prefer it that way so that you can leave whatever you have behind.
Do we need to talk about public hospitals, primary schools, Airports, etc...

Indeed, your existence is not 'known'.... because there has been no census. The census originally planned for 2001 has witnessed uncountable postponements. When eventually held, the census will not include your origin or religion so that cows, cocoa, groundnut and fish can be conveniently included.

Are you still looking for the reason why the oil and land is what is important to them.??

Then, Hitler must have been a 'saint'.

That the Igbos are visibly enterprising does not mean other tribes are not. IF they don't stop these clamouring for Biafra Republic they stand to loose more than what they hope to gain.

They will lose in Nigeria ,but not in Biafra.Do you know that Federal government awarded a road contract to one Lebanese construstion company to repair Onitsha Owerri road since 2003.But not a kilometer of the road has being repaired duo to Federal government is not giving them money. The war against Biafra is still going on secretly.I believe in one Nigeria ,but where by i will be a second class citizen .then let things start to fail apart.it doesn't make any meaning .to be  a second class citizen.Igbos has suffered greatly for Nigeria.Niger Delta is waiting to blow up ,if something urgent is not done.

The ranks of the Biafran neo-separatist movement will not include may of those who witnessed first-hand the horrors of the Nigeria-Biafra civil war 3 decades ago, despite the influence, power and wealth many of them wield today.

A newer generation of idealistic and naive angry young men raised on video games and the internet gather in spirited meetings and bay for wars of separation in Nigeria's south east, while those who saw the first one know the blood price of such folly, and have rightly chosen the method of peaceful democratic dialog to address and resolve regional conflict.

You chose to speak with a 'moron' .....I wonder what that has got to do with the willfull infliction of pain on people because they are of a different tribe. This is the exact phase that the Rwandan people were in 1991.

I support Biafra. It is not by force to be a part of Nigeria. A referendum should be held in the South-East and a few of the South-South States (Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Cross rivers) and if they can get 60 percent or more votes for Biafra, they should be allowed to leave. Enough is enough. All these goddamn Nigerians that think they have a right to hold on the land of an ethnic group and their allies that number at over 30 million should just shut up and burn in hell.

Silly people. I bet if it was a white man that drew Biafra on the map, you would accept it. But if the native people on the land decide they want to leave, they are forced to stay. With the recent invention of car bombs, and high powered machine guns, it is in Nigerias best interest to allow any group that is showing extreme signs of anger towards the system to leave. Because when car bombs start going off in Lagos and Kano, maybe then all the damn complacent Yorubas and Hausas would understand that it really is not by force.

Nigeria will never get anywhere until the government starts to respect the wishes of the people. If the Niger-Deltans want 50 percent of the oil revenue, give them. Afterall it is their ancestral land. If anything, oil has been a curse on Nigeria. The average Ghanaian, a country without oil, is making 2.5 times what the average Nigerian makes and they enjoy constant electricity and better security of life and property. The current system in Nigeria is corrupt and for once in the countries history, change must come from the bottom.

Hold referendums and listen to the people. Honestly, these divisions are hurting Nigeria and the sooner they are resolved, the better. At the present moment, a wealthy business man from Saudi Arabia that might be looking to make a killing in the oil markets can sponsor Muslim extremist schools and provide bomb making materials to the students, and within a few months, the entire country will be disarray.

I don't know about you, but when inside conflicts is a greater threat than outside threat, that is a good indicator that something is seriously wrong with your country. But as always, the cowards would prefer to keep their eyes closed. I swear, when you cowards get married, if you don't take care, your wifes would be hitting you. Push overs!

Note: If I get any reply that claim me mentioning car bombs and machine guns are an attempt to promote violence, I am not going to respond to it. Everything I have mentioned here is true and any advice I might have given (unintentionally) is readily available to anyone that watches CNN and other internal news channels.
