hi.

You can get a genuine credit card (actually, a debit card because it's pre-paid) from Ecobank, UBA/STB, and intercontinental bank. Some of them require you to have an international passport to get the card.

The minimum card value issued is $250. And you're required to have 25% of that as security deposit.

There are some advantages in using a credit card issued by a bank:

1. The credit card issued by a bank is more widely accepted online because it's tied to a bank account.

For example, 2checkout.com, an online payment processor did not accept the credit card I got from virtualcard.com because it's not tied to a bank account.

2. A bank is more stable and has a bigger reputation to protect. They have a mastercard license and won't run away.
On the other hand, third party providers are less stable.

For example, I lost =N=30,000 to virtualkard.com when they claimed the company they were representing overseas had a problem. They simply told me there was nothing they could do to refund my money. A bank wouldn't do that.

But then, if you have difficulty getting a credit card from a Nigerian bank you can still use a third party service.

http://www.zyonlinepayment.com</a> provides a simple and straight forward online payment service.

They do not issue credit cards. They pay for you

a) using their own credit card

or via

b) bank wire transfer

It depends on what the merchant you're buying from prefer.

The service fee is reasonable.

You may wish to give them a try.

I registered with graphcard,  Generated a credit card about $50 with them,  I tried using it to register a domain name for a friend and after the registration, it was cancelled and refunded,  not once, not twice,
I tried it with godaddy, supernamecenter, everyone.net,  but none accepted it,
What should be the problem,

Today they said the balance is 370 USD tomorrow they said it is 6USD. Meanwhile I am carrying the card and I cannot use it. I am stuck here with it in the UK. Can you imagine! Are they the only one who is giving out Mastercard. what about other banks/ No incidents such as this.

CBN should just close down the bank and sooner or later they will. This is not banking. It is just FRAUD pure and simple.

Hey Isrealy,

Your card has probably been tampered with, not necessarily by UBA; maybe by hackers.

Take heart bro.

i feel your pain, i have had dealings with UBA based on ordinary savings account, i wont  entrust them with anything like credit card issues. they are not proactive, they are rude and not customer centered. have experiened this in more than one branch, and have since closed the account. how many banks still charge money for withdrawing from a branch where you didnt open the acct - they are so backward. i can deal with them even  the merger hasnt really done much for them. IN MY OWN OPINION, i wont trust UBA with anything

Hi xdos,
Godaddy and affiliated websites will not accept your credit card if the billing address on the card does not match the IP.
I once had similar problem with Godaddy some years ago. They refunded my money within minutes of purchasng the domain. There's nothing you can do about.I just called their bluff, and registered my domains elsewhere.

If you love Godaddy so much like I do,then get someone in the US to pay for the pertinent items for you.

Isrealy, persoonally I don't think this is the "right" place to be taking up this issue. You probably won't have the strength to take up the case with CBN, but a shorter and equally effective way is to take your experience public. have your story published in as many newspapers as you can, and when it is published, try and have it published again and again from another angle. People hearing about such in public will be sceptical bot doing biz with them, and if by chance you don't get your money back, then be assured that you woulda made a dent in their image, as far as their mastercard is concerned. If your $ was deducted without your knowledge/approval, then UBA has an obligation to look into the matter. Woe betide the company that will do such to me. I sure know how to make a lotta noise.

Is GTN out of business? Their website http://www.gtn-ng.com/ is blank and a mail came back with a notice that the company is bankrupt. But this could be the result of an attack by internet hackers. The sister site http://www.nairapro.com/ displays a page with very disturbing informations about the owners. I would not do financial business with a company that was hacked in such an embarassing way.

GTN works, actually discovered them on nairaland, so good thing the internet does for communication, the truth is this, about genuinity, they are sure genuine 100%, about customer services, thats the problem, it took me a week to get my card instead of the 24hrs they said, well it actually depends on what theya re working on, but dont blasme them much as far as they got my payment done but took a lotta time, calling and questionings, thats a 45%,

Is it that ebay dosnt post things to nigeria, or is it that ebay will not accept a paypal verified debit/credit card issued in nigeria?

You can get a paypal account and link your credit/debit card to the paypal account because paypal will check to see if there is money in the account via network verification to visa and your bank in nigeria. this is the case even for banks in us and uk the account has to be verified for the adequate amount of funds first, before it debits the account.

however a lot of e-bay sellers dont post (send UPS/fedex/uk post postage/mail) to africa (nigeria specifically) partly because its too much of a hassle to handle and they want funny things mailed, such as guns, dildos etc that carry customs restrictions!

however with some nigerian banks coming to the uk, us etc this will become a thing of the past because those cards will be issued with local card numbers.

so for now you can at least withdraw money at an ATM or use it at a POS terminal and in some cases you can link the card to some banks accounts such as citibank and indirectly deposit it into that account and from there use your citibank card.

Getting Legitimate Credit cards in Nigeria is necessary, important and highly required to do legitimate online businesses here in Nigeria. Due to the fact that we are Nigerians and considering our track records as regards our relationship with the rest of the world when it comes to the issue of integrity, we always have a short coming trying to procure this highly needed online asset (Credit Cards) and even when we do using it has since become an issue to be told in another article like this one.
We simply have a bad track record and we need legitimate business men that will prove themselves worthy of being truly known and appreciated for the fact that they have been recognized as trustworthy and true in their dealings with others. We need such likes to drive those ruining our God given country out of business. We need to be on top and stay there, we need to be known for one good deed or another. We need to stand as one, with one voice and one mind. United States President, Barrack Obama has laid the foundation, let’s all build a home for all Africans to unite and speak with one voice of freedom and integrity.

The major problem with credit cards is when you use them with Nigerian Ip Adresses. No matter how genuine a virtual visa credit card maybe it gets declined if a Nigerian Ip Address is used.  Being able to use foreign a Foreign Ip Address simply means that you must purchase a foreign Ip software (Mainly USA) or you get a trusted person to help you use the credit card on your behalf with his/her Foreign Ip Software

Where Can I Buy Credit Card in Nigeria?  Please, I am looking for a place where I can buy a valid credit card.  Like banks or any other organisation.  It is very urgent now.

Hi afajack,

I do not know if you succeeded in buying the credit card. If you did please let us know how you went about it. Knowledge is never absolute o!

If you couldn't or are still having difficulties, i want you to go to another thread about credit card on nairaland where i think most of your fears and doubts have been sorted out.

I gave a very mind blowing solution to this problem which i see facing many of us Nigerians online. I don't have to duplicate it here again so just go to the following thread;
