Was it Philip Osondu or Odartey Lamptey that reacted badly to growth hormones?  Club medics thought the guy was a growing teenager and tried to enhance his height, like they did to Messi.

It was both of them at Anderlecht of Belgium.

I knew two of our players that uses their real age;

1) Muyiwa Lawal (Dimeji Lawal's younger brother) and

2) Dan Amokachi

I played against Muyiwa in 1988 in Ibadan, he is really a kid, his nickname was "kokoro". A friend of mine was in the same secondary school with Amokachie in Kaduna in those days.

@Dayo

Femi can still claim to be my Son today because he's such a tiny Daddy in stature.

@All

Personally, i dont really care about their lies. Oyinbo people will never take them if they declare their real ages.

What can we then say about Equitorial guinea who uses Men to play our  Falcons? Tongue

Wetin happen to that Dimeji? The guy just faded like that. I remember when he come on as a sub against Togo in 1990 in our 3-0 win and scored , after that, he just disappeared. I think the guy played Saudi '89,abi?

Muyiwa played with you in 1988 and 10 years later he was in U-17 that went to Meridien cup in Spain.

You mean Amokachie was 17 in 1989?

How come he retired less than 10 years later (1998) when he was supposed to be at his peak?

Dimeji played Canada 1987 and Saudi 89. Tony Emodofu was on the other wing

Have you noticed Ibadan guys don't do well in the national team. Or they dont stay long before you know they are back in Ibadan.
Duke Udi, Segun Abiodun, Opabunmi, Ajibade babalade, Abiodun Baruwa, Gbenga Okunowo, Dimeji Lawal, I think only Yekini and Mutiu tried and guess what? they returned to Ibadan!!!

Check the Shooting stars set of 1996 which I consider the most talented home based team I have ever seen. None of them cut it for the nation

Abiodun Baruwa was married to my friends sister, one halfky girl like this. . . . . I remember they were having problems when his career stalled. . . . when he came to Barry Town, he tried to resurrect their marriage, but the guy was in a really bad situation and that was affecting his marriage. . . last time I checked, they are not together. . .

1) The first U-13 footbvall tournament was in 1988 which my team won(i was not in the team then but i know every single player in the team plus our Late Coach). I think Muyiwa played the 1989 one. I was in form 5 then. Muyiwa should be 9/10 years, very very tiny but skilful boy. He was being over-protected by Olubadan stadium officials because of his brother's influence at thge time Saudi '89 wa still shacking us. Even the way he talk, the way he behave, its  obvious he is in primary school. I am 100% sure of this. All his kits were from abroad. He always stand out. Sadly he is retired now according to wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abass_Lawal

2) My friend Yinka told me that. He was playing for Ranchers while he was in secondary school. He was lucky to be in the eagles to Algiers '90. Thanks to quota system and a complete sweeping of super eagles at that time.

Dimeji is already an old man before he played for us in canada. His football intelligence pass everybody for that tourney. i remember he was taken for drug test immediately after our semi-final match. After a successful tourney in Saudi, he went to Belgium. Beside the questionable age, i think his flamboyancy and car business that he undertook make him lose focus as he uses every little opportunity to litter the whole Ibadan with Belgian cars. The same thing christopher nwosu does.

1) All Ibadan guys will always return to Ibadan because it is the best place to dwell. Though all these yeye lagosians are now trouping to ibadan.

## I think Babalade is more of Lagos than ibadan. At that time, 3sc bought him for #250k( the most expensive in the country).

## Duke Udi killed himself jare( The first nigerian to be paid bonuses for each goal scored while at grasshoper in switzerland). i hope you remember his combination with olumide harris in those days.

##  Gbenga did well. He was at a time in the main team of barcelona.

##Omo-alhaja is very unlucky. Without Baruwa there might not be atlanta success.

What of Olofinjana who has a degree in Chemical Engineering from LASU?
Although to be fair to him, he only started his football career at 21, thats why he is still going strong.

I remember Igenewari George who was in Comprehensive Secondary School which was near my house in Borokiri, PH. We used to go and play there everyday. When he was in SS3, I must have been 7 years old, yet he was supposed to be 16 in Ecuador 1995 . . . . I turned 13 in 1995. . . .

LASU or LAUTECH?
i think he was in Lautech

Dayo
the 1996 team the most talented home based team? what about Amodus BCC Lions of Gboko that won the mandela cup?
what about the iwuanyanwu nationale that played the sekou toure finals

as for the topic
i heared one of our guys that won the Under-17 world cup had his childs naming ceremony weeks after the tourney
the age on his passport read 16 and i just wondered how old will the wife be?
did he marry someone older than him or what?

yakubu will be well above 30!
yakubu was once the highest goal scorer in our local league after playing for Okomu
His age then wouldt be anything less than 25

@Tkb,

Amodu's team of 1990 was also loaded Moses Kpakor, John Zaki, John Agum, Amir Angwe, I am not sure if Edema Fuludu and Precious Monye were in the team

They were good too but I just prefer the Baruwa, Patrick Pascal, Patrick Ovie, Ajibade babalade, Emmanuel Teberen, Gbenga Okunowo, Duke Udi, David Ogaga, Edith Agoye, Demola Johnson and co were just my pick maybe because I watched them more.

The BCC guys I read them on Newspapers. I only saw like 5 of their games including the Challenge cup win over Iwuanyawu with Mike Obiku, Cyril Levi,

yakubu is more of a club player than national team player, which is very characterstic of most of our players, so y'all should cut him some slack  Cool

dimeji lawal was pretty young then, thats not contestible . . .

daniel amokachi was also young way back when he broke into the ecowas team that westerhof used his first for . . .

pius ikedia finished secondary school in 1993/1994, and was quite young when he played for naija  @ nigeria'99 . . . do the math  Cool

@dayokanu

there is more to naija footie than sootin stars of '96,
what of the stationery stores of old
with the collin ebitimis of this world
or the bunmi adiguns of leventis,
or the angus ikeji of iwuanyanwu nationale,
the bazuayes of insurance,
lemmy isa of lobi united,
or even toyin ayinla of abiola babes  Huh

Dr Kit,

Most of those guys you mentioned I only saw their games less than 10 times. But I was fortunate to watch a lot of Shooting games.

This set of Shooting players won the double in Nigeria 1995 and  lost in the Champions cup finals on penalties

I think Amodu's team of 90-91 was probably the best I've seen,but I heard of a deadly Leventis United side of Ibadan, 84-87.
Dayo,I saw them beat Iwuanyawu in '89's FA cup final.They were GOOD.
The 96 set of shooting were good.But in my book,they couldn't beat the BCC of 90-91.Or the Leventis of 84-87:Ansah,Leotis Boateng,Andrew Uwe,Uwem Ekarika,Wole Odegbami.They kept Sootin in the shade while they were around.I remember someone saying Sootin never beat Leventis in an Ibadan derby when they both were in the top flight.
There's a missing name from the BCC squad:Amaechi Otiji.

And we're forgeting a so-called NNB around the same time:Keshi,Henry Nwosu,Bright Omokaro,Humphrey Edobor,Sunday Eboigbe

@Dayo
Forget the shooting of 96. They were good o but that Amodus team was my best. Like KIt said, the Abiola babes, the Leventis of this world too had talented players
But wait o, i didnt see Leventis play like that but i can still remember that FA cup final that was won by Abiola babes. can u remember Ramon King? kai kai, local footie dey sweet o

Concords' gideon imagudu, monday agbontean,Ike shorunmu, Issac Ilevbare, Jide Oguntuase, et all was also a talented team

Back to Yakubu

@DayoK

The best home based team in Nigeria EVER was Leventis United of Ibadan.

By all standard, the very best.

The team was run professionally before pro-football even started in nigeria. Ironically i dont support them as i be omo-sutin.

The team was the first division 3 team to win challenge cup in 1983( when challenge cup was challenge cup Cry Cry Cry). In the same year, they won division 3 title.

They become the first division2 club in african  to reach the final of African winners cup which they they lost narrowly.

They bamboosed everyone in division 1 including MKO'S team to be the best clubside in the country.

Ironically, they exist for like 5 years. They play like Arsenal but with trophies. Grin

## Abiola played leventis  twice in FA cup finals with Ibadan team winning both but 1984 one was the sweetest where the unknown Wole was messing up established defenders.

@ Akola,

You know I get beef for any club contending with Sooting Be it Leventis, Exide Sparkers, IBL Ilesha, Concord, Stores, ACB or Julius berger.

I see Shooting as the best club in the Soth West and Nigeria Bar Orji Kalu's Enyimba.

And the best Sooting collection I watched was 1996. I was too young to follow the Sooting of Odegbami in the late 70's and early 80's.

Thats why I dont really idolise Sengun Odegbami.

Same reason for my preference of maradona over pele. I watched Diego wella and I love him. I just saw highlights of pele's game which were always moments he was scoring goals and they could be deceptive.
