The Yak is certainly not finished. Yakubu like most other Nigerian players understate their ages by , He has his faults on the pitch (unwilling to get involved, loses concentration, unmotivated especially for Nigeria, sometimes lazy) He has more strengths , a good goal scorer, an excellent passer of the ball, assists more than he scores (this is one reason he gets called up to the Super Eagles). Yakubu will recover. He is not a player to ignore even though we have better attackers like Uche, Osaze, Nsofor, Yakubu is certainly the better goal scorer compared to these guys (records speak for themselves). I wish you a quick recovery Yak. Nigerians we should learn to be objective about our people and criticise appropriately. Yakubu I have observed is the most hated Nigerian player today. He has scored more than most people realise, 18 national team goals so far, Martins, Aghaowa, Kanu, Amokachi are all under 15. So hate him less please Much as I disagree with the under 15 claim, i still love your comment.

How can you say that Yakubu is finished are you his God. Yak was a painter back in 1995. The chap that discovered him said "I found him as a poor man, he was a painter back then. He had good skills but he was raw so I trained him for a couple of years and then he went on to play in the local league". I remember reading this on Nigeriaworld.com a few years ago. He was at Okomu Oil from 1995 to 1998 before going to Julius Berger. Nigerians are wicked to say that.

I think people are a bit hasty in writting Yak off. Even though the odds are largely against him (age and all),I think people have come back from worse situations. I think we should wish him well.

Why do we kill our own.
Have you guys ever wondered why the whites don't bother about issues as this or they don't exist?
Yak will be back.

I imagine Yak was in his mid 20's in 95 - add 13 years to that and what do you get? 38 - Roger Milla's age at Italia 90 I hope he isn't finished, but his weight issues gives me concern about it.

I knew two of our players that uses their real age;
1) Muyiwa Lawal (Dimeji Lawal's younger brother) and
2) Dan Amokachi
I played against Muyiwa in 1988 in Ibadan, he is really a kid, his nickname was "kokoro". A friend of mine was in the same secondary school with Amokachie in Kaduna in those days.
@Akolawole Dem still twist the guy age small as kokoro was in my elder sister's class at Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) staff school in Ibadan and my sister no dey too old for her class at all. My sister was born in 1973 so Kokoro couldn't have been born in 1980 as I was born before 1980 and I dey KG1 or KG2 at this time. I would put Kokoro's age between 1973 and 1975 so dem still subtract like 5 years from him age, the guy was always short though and always liked playing football, I beleive their Dad was also a staff of CRIN at the time.

@ Dudu Space,
Kokoro played U-17 in 1997 so he was like 5-7 years older than his declared age

ibime and co, i am relly disappointed with you and your reasoning. wether yak play again in his whole life or not, he can never be as poor as you are. why is it that nigerians enjoy reporting negative stories? where have you been all these while yak has been hitting the media all over england? how many lions will a man kill in your community before you call him the lion killer? is it not shameful that a man created like you with the same two legs has been displaying in front of thousands of spetectors week in week out with his real names and you are here hiding under a fabricated name condeming someone that God has blessed. my prayers to today is that God will make you to change and begin to appreciate good things so that better things will come your way otherwise, when you are alone, take a glass of cold water and ask yourself, a man like yakubu who MUST have a charity organisation or certain foundations design to help less previleged among us, how many people prays for his progress on daily bases and what is the percentage of your bad belle group to that group praying for him? if you are a christain, read Genesis 3:11. the bible passage simply asks, who told you? according to your thread, yakubu is finished. and Genesis 3:11 is asking you today, WHO TOLD YOU? on my own, i will like to ask you, ARE YOU GOD? no wonder 2face said, no one can course who God don bless.

Come guys, you can't blame Yak for his age, you need to blame the system in Nigeria. Most of us are good footballers but couldn't continue because we needed to either choose between school or soccer, if you chose soccer then you would starve, the League teams in Nigeria wouldn't even look at you because you are young.
We need a system that would allow young aspiring footballers continue playing soccer and also studying. I pray the guy recovers from his injury, he has made me a proud Nigerian

Nigerians love to engage in self delusion. They delude themselves that age doesn't count in football, hence they put players such as Kanu and Yak on a pedestal, praying over their every move, wishing for their selection in Super Eagles. This is simple lack of accountability and corrupt mentality. Then they send 40 year olds to the World cup and wonder why they do not succeed. Instead of speaking the truth and holding their NFA accountable, they involve themselves in big-man worship. You cannot take wrong actions and expect good results, deluding yourselves all the way that the players you are sending in to battle are match-fit and capable of doing the job.
