Aircraft Terror Plot Disrupted

A terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight from the UK to the US has been disrupted, Scotland Yard has said.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on to as many as 10 aircraft in hand luggage.
Police arrested about 18 people in the London area and West Midlands after an anti-terrorist operation.

High security is causing delays at all UK airports, Heathrow is closed to incoming flights, and MI5 has raised the threat level to critical.

According to MI5's website, critical threat level - the highest - means "an attack is expected imminently and indicates an extremely high level of threat to the UK".

Home Secretary John Reid confirmed that there had apparently been a plot "to bring down a number of aircraft through mid-flight explosions causing a considerable loss of life".

According to BBC sources the "principal characters" suspected of being involved in the plot were British-born.

Can some body please tell me why people born in Britain,are Britons and have lived in Britain all their lives, enjoying the benefits of this country, will want to blow up a plane carrying fellow Britons, all in the name of opposing the Governemnt's anti-terrorist actions?   

How does blowing up planes carrying innocent poeple on holidays or business to earn a living, achieve any worthy goal other than plunging families and friends into a lifetime of pain and sorrow over lost ones? 

Are there no better means of resistance and opposition?   

Must it be through slaughter of innocent people, a lot of whom actually also opposes the government's actions?

unfortunately this terrorists one of the more intelligent people in this world, apparently human loss of life is not their concern, but they definitely get their word and purpose out there by doing what they do (e.g sept 11). its sad and sickening but this is one form of movement that might not be going anywhere for a while unless we do something soon.

Or maybe they are irrational and try to justify their action by killing innocent people.

thank you ohhhhhhhhh, thank you you really see it as it is, but knowing Britain, they always want to appear as humanitarians, they will not take action in making sure these swines don't come here let alone be allowed to breed the next generation swines here. Hizbollah bombing of the american marines led to the withdrawal of the marines from lebanon. Th tamil tigers are doung it and srilanka is now forced to give them autonomy. The Irish did it, the Italian did it, the spannish do it, nigerians are doing it. the recent attack on england was by british citizens.
anyone can be a terrorist. it is not restricted to one ethnic group, sex, class, age group and what ever [don't forget the Brithsh Jamican bomber]. Why do they do it? it works, they have seen the results from srilanka, lebanon, somalia,spain ireland e.t.c. they know that the public in democratic societies control the government and the fastest way to get the government to carry out a  action is if public opinion favors it. Fear is their biggest weapon and they use it on the public to carry out their courses [the spannish bombing  which led to the loss of the incumbent and the withdrawal of spannish troops from iraq]. their tactics yields fruit but only in situations that will not adversely affect the intret of the countries under attack.
In summary, these guys are not dumb. they know what they are doing. they think they are giving up one for the better of all [their course]. it is the way they carry out their action that we should argue about. Personally i feel you do not punish a child for the sin of the father. But as long as they have a reason to fight, they will continue to exist.
