This is getting ridiculous. Nairaland properties used to be one of the most interesting forums on nairaland but it has turned strictly to an advertising ground alone and what is extremely annoying is the spamming and continous repititions of threads by the same people over and over again and worse still is people like umanahjj who posts in virtually every thread advertsing the same properties 1 million times. This will definately turn a lot of people off since it has turned into a classified without any rules and a free for all. Nobody is saying properties shouldnt be advertised, in fact people need to know properties in stock but spamming and not knowing who is who and what is what, makes this forum the least appreciated. Alot of nigerians abroad look up to this thread for properties they might be interested in for them selves or their families but without rules, things could get awry. Please do something about it ASAP. i WONDER WHY THIS FORUM IS THE ONLY ONE WITHOUT A MODERATOR

I wonder oo. This Umana guy advert is very annoying. One or 2 threads is enough for u to advertise what you need and everyone will see you advert. You cant be subjecting people to this crazy sh**. On other forums, your IP will get banned right away.

Thats right, something should be done about people who go around repeating the same adverts all over other people's threads. I really get pissed off when l get a message in my mail box stating that l have a reply to one of the threads l posted only to get to Nairaland and find out it was only some idiot posting something that has nothing to do with my post on my thread.
I support the motion for a moderator for the property forum in Nairaland!!

Thanks for bringing this up. I thought it was actually ridiculous the way the umanajj guy posted everywhere. Obviously, he's not a serious person. I second a moderator for the properties section.

i think we need some kind of moderator especially in the property segment ,the money we looking into in the post are alwys on the high side and the scammers can use this medium as their bait to the naive ones. Some weeks back i called a property company to make some enquiries and all they interested in was when are paying as i was negotiating they were like it is ok with them immediately i knew this are 419ers.Please we need a moderator.

You guys are right 100% Imagine one person with a post advertising his properties and people view them and make their offers and someone from no where comes to advertise his ware house for sale thereby altering the momentum. I have seen it happen to aeon's thread, popoyeh, smafolabi, lifedone, jayr,h$broker and a lot of popular estate agents on nairaland.
This thing destroys credibility and with the simple fact that property is man's most appreciated treasure, it is very important to keep a safe eye and be vigilant against fraudsters and imposters. If you look at the auto's thread, they all watch themselves against stupid and irrelevant posts and sales because products that people expect to part ways with millions of naira is not a joke. A lot of families have been rendered broke and homeless because of posts like ummanahjj's and the senior ones on nairaland properties would have a major dent on their credibility.
I appreciate the fact that thousands of nigerians abroad look unto nairaland properties for classified adverts on properties and seem to trust most agents they deal with. All it takes is for a lawless society to turn hell loose for all marauders claiming to be agents meanwhile they are omonile's in disguise.
So Abeg Seun, this is no longer a laughing matter. If someone loses Millions of naira due to an imposter, it could bounce back to you in an unpleasant way because you refused to take precautions to safe guard your members!
Cheers!

Can someone give me a link to the umana guy's profile? If he's causing so much trouble, I can just ban him?

Seun, Ummana is not the issue! The real issue is checking future people like him and multiplicity of posts that are either irrelevant, dubious or plain spam.
Nairaland property section is the only part of your forum whereby in case a business or transaction takes place, millions of naira are spent at once, so extra precaution has to be taken to safeguard everyone's interest.

well if umanna gets banned, i am in support of it big tyme and should serve as a lesson to others. S you are spot on there.
As for the moderator position, I would have offered myself to be the moderator but we work in a democratic society and so far so good, i see you always put it to vote so let the nairalanders property members choose their moderator as them deem fit!
This is a very sensitive section of your forum! Its always 90% business and transanction and 10% fun!
Cheers!

Yes, the law will be an excellent moderator, we need mature and responsible people that can at least write simple english. one of them in webmasters has practically made me stop checking that category. But I don't support banning Umana he only needs to be more educated about the rules of forum just as u guys have pointed out to him and I believe he must have learnt his lessons. He may be annoying everybody without him knowing, so is good you pointed that out.

@ thirdeye, so you think someone who has the time to post on every thread is a serious minded person and is not trying to annoy everyone on purpose. I hope you are in no way related to this umahajj guy.
I support LAWYER as moderator. He's made a lot of excellent contributions on this forum and has offered legal advise to many prospective property buyers.

i want to really appreciate and thank mr seun for the privilege on this forum, which has not being only informative but educative as we all get to learn and ask sensitive questions pertinent to real estate. be as it may, i think we all hold it as a sense of duty to in addition to the aforementioned privileges, caution and conduct our selfs in the most appropriate manner.
i throw my full weight behind the moderator ship to this forum initiative, in addition giving my support to DE LAW as a competent hand to captain this boat.
my opinion on umahajj, is that he came into this forum ignorantly i will say, due to lack of a moderator, yes, he could be sanctioned but be giving a second chance to learn and be a better realtor person .
thanks

I support the lawyer! Am quite new to Nairaland and as some of you have mentioned ,we in the states or anywhere in the world for that matter depend on credible sites to help stay tuned and engaged in the Nigerian progression in all front. I just purchased a land in Ogombo and Thanks to Nairaland Properties i was well armed with information before making an offer. So "DE LAW" has my vote!

Well,
Just like Mankere, i am based in the UK I use the property section of Nairaland most, i also post links from here to my pals here Also due to some info i have read in Nairaland i am purchasing land in Ogun state. This is something i would never have done if not for the information i have been able to gather here.
Lawyers, write ups are ramarkably enlightening and full of homethruths. I even did a search on all the stuff he has ever written on
This is my first post on the forum (i have always been a silent) and it is just to say i nominate Lawyer as the moderator.

Seun,
There is no need banning Mannajj,a warning could be OK as a deterrent or a lesson. As a webmaster and with your loads of experience on Nairaland, you can observe that some posters need simple courtesy. They need to be thought on what is a GOOD MANNER.Give him an opportunity to learn and earn a living from his hustling. After all we are all Nigerians and NL will certainly be a way of life for Nigerians if we learn to tolerate.
Moderatorship,
I vote for LAWYER for his unreserved professional and informative contribution to the Property section.

Seun and Nairaland property section would stand to gain a lot if 'Lawyer' accepts to moderate this property section.
I can see him being a moderator with a difference not only in terms of maintaining sanity of threads and posts but making a big difference on the basis of useful information he could potentially contribute (and which he has been contributing anyway) to the section.

I have always wondered why the property section is soooo boring. Nobody responds to queries. Questions never get answered. Also most of the property adverts are off mark as the stated prices are hardly the budget of Nairalanders. I thought the property section should be as interesting as the Auto sections where lots of deals take place daily.

@Papabrowne
Sorry that the property section is boring to you. You have to understand that prior to this time, things have not been stream-lined and it has basically being an advertisment ground and people keep to themselves because that kind of familiarity that exists in the auto, religion and romance section is basically almost non existent.
The vocal members here have not really been given the opportunity to express themselves apart from just selling properties and the purchasers themselves have largely been restricted to just inquires and nothing more. So it is basically a scattered forum that's needs to be organized by all of us
Hopefully, we intend to create an atmosphere that binds everyone to together through discussion forums, funny property threads, educative and informative threads regarding the dos and donts of property purchases and serious property inquiries board. When everyone participates more, this thread will be the liviest thread. So please bear with us.
We are not as boring as you think! Loads of intelligent and smart people here!
Also remember when the issue at stake is someone's life asset (Shelter and Property) which results in million of Naira, there is less time for fun and games and 100% concentration but we would do our best!
Cheers!

This is the only forum where serious minded people come too unlike the crazy and mad religious or romance section and i believe it should be preserved in its sane manner so that is why i am supporting the lawyer chap to moderate this forum. I have read some of his posts and he is very very helpful to many people and i believe if he is made a moderator, he can sanitize the whole nairaland sef and still help everybody out with their business and legal problems! Big ups the law! Now back to my crazy peeps in the romance and religious forums!!!

Do not cruxify the guy Umana, he advertising his products and properties is one product that does not sale as as fast as other things, it attracts huge financial outlay to buy one, he has to keep sending his available properties until they are sold I think he is doing the right thing, just blank out if you do not want to look, or just take your time to browse through his briefs you might probably see the property you have been longing for
