Its a web development language. Its was used to develop this forum. Thats why you are able to post and read real time.

I would rather call it a server side scripting language, which was developed with a focus on web applications. Even though you can develop desktop apps with it, using the PHP-GTK. Although not really much can be achieved. And you actually have to compile the interpreter with the program to make it portable. But the lady asked for the meaning only, I suppose.

Wouldnt really like the idea of linking a web development language to real time output nor even interactive response.

Web development language does not necessarily mean dynamic!! HTML (Hypertext Makeup Language) is a Language I suppose? not a programming language but a template language used for web development, if I might call it that. But it does not make your development dynamic, so not necessarily.

PHP is the language in question. Not other ones.

I've been using PHP Designer for quite a while now. It's pretty good. The user interface is quite similar to Dreamweaver, so I guess it'll be easy for someone who's conversant with Dreamweaver to adapt.

Plus I got it to work on my Linux box using Wine.

I don't know if it will be helpful, for Visual Studio programmers, they can develop php applications in visual studio environment. I like it and it's ok

VS.Php for Visual Studio .Net 2003 - develop php applications from within Visual Studio.Net 2002 & 2003. This product lets you build, edit and deploy php applications using the familiar interface of the most popular IDE in the market.

Contrary to other PHP IDE products, VS.Php leverages the familiar interface of Microsoft Visual Studio.Net allowing PHP developers leverage all the features Visual Studio.Net provides.

No need to learn a new IDE interface or tools.

Working with php projects has never been easier, VS.Php provides rich project management features similar to ASP.Net projects.

Because many developers deply their Php applications in non-Windows servers, VS.Php also provides deployment support for remote servers where you can deploy your Php application on a click of a button.

The php editor gives you the most productivity by giving you access to Php built in functions and modules as well as your functions and classes.

You can even include PEAR classes in your project and VS.Php will show the symbols in its intellisense feature. While typing parameters VS.Php will guide you through the process by giving you hints on the parameters of the function or method you are working on.

And at any given point, VS.Php will highlight any syntax error in your code. You don't have to run the script to find out if you have syntax errors. VS.Php will tell you in real time.
