Hi guys, long time.well it seems mtn now can't be used to send or reply posts on nairaland, all it knows now is to report one annoying error,"http504 service unavailable". Glo is now kind of erratic in their service.i mean the gprs service always goes on and off lately, 'vmobile connects, although you might just have to wait for hours, generally, gprs isnt that fine as usual,

Hi,

The best may IMO to compare call the networks, would be to perform the same type of test across all the networks.

My suggestion is visit http://performance.toast.net/ and tell us what download speed you managed to get on one of the GPRS networks.
Give us the following details:
- Speed test type at http://performance.toast.net/
- Speed test host at http://performance.toast.net/
- Type of phone or modem you used
- The network you used
- and your speed test result.  Smiley

Hopefully, if many people can perform this test we can compare each network.

Wirefree.

yeah mtel is really browsing BUT there system goes off sometimes.(like 1 to 2 weeks)
i had to go up to there switch in abuja before i got the connection but i think it's a little complicated because the guy i was reffered to had to collect the phone and do a little set  up. I tried the settings on other mtel sims but it didn't work, and the only settings i see on my phone is only the acces point which is , apn1.mtel.ng, i also connected it to laptop via nokia usb data cable and one pc suite and my laptop was connected to the web at an instant, and it's also free,

All you guys using the Mtel gprs should know the way to activate the lines. there's got to be a settings sequence such as "activate" or "settings" sent to a dedicated number,  What's the way forward?

Mtel gprs does not need any settings apart from the APN which has been posted somewhere here before. The only problem is how to activate or provision the line & enable it for browsing. i heard you need to know an insider in order to get activated.

hello every body, its been quite a while, still on d topic, glo has been stable 4 a while now and impressive, mtn has also been okay, although they cut out their service anytime they wish, vmobile has been the most used network this period because of their free service, and that is the reason why its usually slow in the day, but faster at night, still no new word on mtel,

FYI, you don't need password or IP add for Mtel, just the APN will do. All you need do is activate your line, input the APN and start browsing, simple and easy.
