Hmmnnn, another Friday, with its usual relaxed environment. Casuals. TGIF. Everybody looking forward to a wonderful weekend.

Fridays are usually short of activities for me. First the lady beside me (a corper) doesn't come on Fridays(her CD day) so I don't usually have anybody to gist. So I'm usually alone in our corner.

Month-end is around the corner again and with second day of next month the new deadline for finalization of accounts in everybody's charge, I foresee a very hectic next week.

But God dey sha!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend all.

How are my people doing today? Hope the IB's, the lawyers, bankers/financial service peeps, ogas and glorified cleaners like myself are all doing good.  Grin

It's been a slowish start to the week for me, I'm finding motivation hard to come by - maybe it's the summer sunshine causing this. I just feel I'm NOT supposed to be in this office right now!!  Sad

Two major tasks coming up in the next couple of weeks. I need to chaperon some contractors employed by our regulators to do some emissions monitoring this week, you need to virtually nanny them around the site so they don't blow the place up by accident.

Also have to prepare for a project screening workshop next week - I've done possibly 25% of the work already, but I have to use the formal process and document everything instead of my gragra style.  Grin

I'm already preparing a killer powerpoint presentation to bore everyone to death in 30 minutes so they just agree with what I say and end of story. Cheesy

I had a good mentoring chat last week with a senior colleague - seems we have similar passions and he was talking about how he's positioning himself for his next job higher up in the organisation. That's the part of work I don't really like, but very necessary if you don't want to get stuck in some dead end job.

Everyone is either in a meeting or left already so I have the entire office to myself - time to take a nap before heading off home!  Grin

Welcomers,
It's not being easy here o. There is serious fire on the mountain.
Yesterday was a bad day in the company, as the Group olori-oko released mail showing virtually all the top management staff in my subsidiary the way out, in what will be remembered as a shock of the year. Work practically stopped as all of us non-mgt staff were clustered in groups discussing the massive sack. It was very shocking.
Here are people I had thought were untouchable, people that wielded so much power.Na wa o, so oga pass oga. I now reason with people that say there is nothing like owning your business, being your own boss.

The effect has started telling on us their boys already. The surviving managers, among which was my direct boss, are now unusually tough on us. The rule now is zero tolerance for even inevitable mistakes. Everybody wants to save his head.

Fingers crossed.

Top management staff are more vulnerable if there are planned changes within an organisation!
You might think they are untouchable, but dude, dont get it twisted!
In my young life, i have seen shit like this happen. . . . .Its crazy
It makes me think, fuc.k do i really wanna do first line management or upper echelon management?
But truth be told, i wont be scared by any life experiences i have seen/gone through. . . . .I know where i wanna be at over the next few years!
Is this just a restructuring/re-organisation thingy or what?

hey guys,
How una dey. . . a bit under the weather myself , but struggling to keep on. August and vac in sight. Hurrah!
Like the old-timers A Tribe Called Quest once sang, Lon-don, Pa-ris, Broo-klyn, To-Key-Yoo!
I am out of naija with my famile for a month or so, on a world tour of sorts. Will be nice to get away from Lagos traffic, PHCN and landlord/landlady wahala jare.

@Jarus and oyb,
make una no worry. Most of the time, it's the guilty that are afraid. Some of the 'ogas' prolly deserve to go anyways. Besides, it's an opportunity for the youth to rise up and take their place, shake things up. We could do with some shake-ups in Nigeria, possibly a Yar'Adua and co firing:)

I have been a constant passerby on this thread but never had the time to drop ma own few lines.
Just a lil intro, i'm a trained engineer (like most peeps so be on this forum apart from the likes of TKb and bro jarus) but work as an Information Analyst. I line manage about 4 other analyst so most of my work this days are into strategising team's direction and producing monthly metrics to feed into the overall programme reporting for org.
Started working for this non departmental government body straight outta university (6yrs ago to be precise and i am staring to feel really old).
My day to day routine starts by me getting to work anytime between the hours of 9-10 am, browse the internet for an hour, start attending less meaningfull meetings as they seem to always do in public org's (we are not profit driven so an extremely relaxed working environment), I usually do working lunch anytime between 12-2pm.

I've just decided to test ma programming skills so i have now started working in the analyst programming side of ma org. We currently do alot of querying and quantitative analysis of hospital episode data (i have access to everyone that have visited any NHS hospital in the UK's data. scary right?). The new role is somewhat challenging as am more used to C++ but now having to learn new language and to understand the data itself.

anywayz, enough of me and i must say this thread is probably one of the few threads where professionals can gather and probably learn from each other. Who knows we might be the ones to change our sleeping nation called Nigeria.

Peace y'all
