School Politics - Student Union Government (SUG)

I aspire to be an SUG President in my school, (school name withheld) but I don't know what opinion people have of this.

I'd also like the members of this forum to tell me about the dangers and benefits of having an elective post in a higher insitution in all respect - academic-wise, social-wise, after-school-wise, finance-wise and otherwise and/or otherwises.(sic)
