Most Unprofitable One-sided Soccer Match?
« on: September 02, 2006, 06:01 PM »

At times football is funny.

A team may play wonderful football for 90 minutes without getting anything in return ( i.e still lose the match).

Some of us(football fans) had weep many times because of this.

In such matches, the winning team play rubbish but win.

I will list few that i know and other members can add theirs including their feeling after the match.

1) Wigan  Vs Chelsea.    (2005/2006 English premiership)
Chelsea play rubbish but win via Crespo's injury team winner.

2) Ivory Coast  Vs  Nigeria        (1990 Nations cup)

Nigeria won via Yekini's 5th minute goal, we were outplay and outclassed by the ivorians

3) Villareal Vs  Arsenal    (2005/2006 Champions league Semis)

Probably Arsenal's worst match in Wenger era but they get the needed result.

4) Arsenal Vs Chelsea          ( 2002 FA Cup Final)

In my opinion, Chelsea played very very well only to be sorted by Lumberg and parlour's late goals.

Waiting for yours as well.

5)  Manchester United vs Arsenal     (2004 FA cup Final)

Outplay, Outgunned and Outclassed by United only for Vieria to carry the cup.

hmm, this is a tough one o. Man pikin has seen so many matches to remember them all.

Well I think I can remember Diego Magic in Italia '90 in the 2nd Round Game again Brazil. Brazil with Careca and his ilks tried all they could against Diego's army and just one golden moment of magic between Diego and Cannigia finished off the match.

I'm not wearing my thinking casp now jare will remember more. Have had a busy day  Wink

What is the criteria for determining a 1-sided affair? Games like Arsenal and Fulham where ball possession was 93-7% at some time in the game must be a benchmark as V de saar stood between Arsenal and 3points on the day

@Rikkyjen, did they play well enough to have earned even a point?
