Igbinedion University Okada: Opinions Wanted
« on: September 04, 2006, 04:16 PM »

My friend's nephew is interested in Igbinedion University Okada. Apart from the crazy fees, Nobody knows anybody who knows any body who has attended the school.

Have u?

Do u know anyone who has?

Is it worth all that money?

Does NYSC etc recognise the school?

Do employers recognise the school?

Please help me to help my friend.

Many thanks,

hershyn.

The school's ok and really expensive.

Used to be about 250K per session or sumtin:might b mo' now.

I am however not sure that private universities are accepted in the society already.a lot of people feel that sending ur

child there is synonymous with buying  a degree.I agree to some xtent because if u fail a course u can pay to redo the exam

and i think that's wack.

But it guarantee that there are no strikes and all that ish.

Igbinedion University is a good school and it is well recognised, but u really need to be loaded 2 study in that school, and like de girl said, are u ready 2 be changing cars every semester or be ur self.
U friend needs a re-think before going 2 study dere, if he is well loaded or his folks, den he should go ahead.

umm, actually know a few people who graduated from there and are serving as well but also know a few people who left the school 'cause their medical degree ain't accredited. It's the same problem like studying medicine in ESUT.
Depends on the course I guess. Take a trip to the school and find out exactly their accreditation 'cause we can't give you enough info,

Who said Efizy? That's all you got upstairs huh?

Hmmn, ve heard what u guys said about igbinedion university. well most of what u said re true.
am a graduate of igbinedion university, its a good school, despite d effizy n stuffs.
one major reason is dt u knw y u re goin to sch, so y nt mke best use of it (studying
).

Its really expensive dts d only disadavantage, apart from d medical aspect, wich i knw is stil undergoin accreditation.

A major adv is dt ur 4yrs is ur 4yrs, no strike or stuffs. de ve good lecturers, despite d corruption (which takes place in most of our universities)

I graduated last year n am presently serving. like i said, u knw d reason y u r dere. i didnt hve a car in sch, bt hd fun. its like normal universities, just kind of expensive, so ur friend has to b kind of boxed up, bt b mind ful of spendin. But if he cn afford it

An advice, go der n study, n stil ve fun knwin y u re dere.

Cheers.

What is good about a school that charges so much money yet has many of its departments unaccredited by the NUC?

jazzy, d sch is a good sch. u said u re in a private sch too in benin, i presume BIU, wich is a sister sch to Igbinedion.

i like what u said "i ve been to igbins uni okada but wasnt impressed, the opperssion dere is terrible true talk if u can't liveup 2 standard"

u knw wt ur prob is inferiorty complex, while don't u b u, u re nt goin der to impress anybody.
as per d structures u re sayin, to ma best of knowledge, der re facilities to aid learnin. "u think schools like unilag was made in a day"?: hell no, it wasnt. just giv d sch time , n der will "definitely be an improvement"

like i said i attended dt sch, didnt ve a car n graduated, because i knew d reason y i was dere.

so, d only thin m requestin is "be you"

I don't mean no disrespect, but Omosofe I am just assuming that this is not the way you write
all the time,  right?   I have noticed a pattern among some recent Nigerian school graduates,
they can't seem to know the difference between when the target audience are their personal
friends/text message buddies or strangers. The writings are cryptic, and one gets a headache
trying to make sense out of what is being said, especially when they may be making valid points.

I hope I am wrong, but if that is a sampling of how some graduates of the Igbinedion University
write, I see no point burning millions of naira educating someone there.  Why burn more money
if I can get the same result for less?

Well, I couldn't help getting involved in this discussion. I am going to be brutally frank. I was there this year for the B INC SOPHOMORE awards and to visit my friend Blake X and being a walking antenna and information junkie, I sure observed a lot during my 6 day stay. By the way I really had a swell time and got plastered and hung out with HOT chics. Well, if you want to go to a liberal private university where there very little restrictions and you can bring any sportscar to school, IUO is the school to be in. If you want to be a hippie dipsomaniac undergrad, IUO is the school. Same thing goes when you want to finish your degree within the stipulated time and not have to buy handouts or cope with chronic teacher absenteeism. However, Igbinedion University like most Nigerian universities, has an outdated curriculum, barely-qualified lecturers, horrid architecture-unlike Covenant Uni- and does offer much in the way of innovative methods. Nearly everything about Igbinedion University is about spin and image management. The university only turns on the style when the accreditation teams visit. And even though there are brilliant students there, there are a lot of dumb students who "sort" about 40,000K for some courses. You could also end up with major depression if you have an inferiority complex. The roll of cars in IUO include but are not limited to: RAV 4s, C-Classes, Kia Rios (Brand New) etc. However, there is an upside. The Nigerian educational system is in shambles anyway so why not just cough out 311K or 400K depending on your course and then then get a job, start a business or get a masters degree. I think it's encouraging students to be lazy if u know that if u fail a course u can pay to get a better grade.

Also,I agree the school isn't up to scratch.i've got friends there. If an average person goes to that school and their parents don't own a company or know people,it will be tough for them to get a good job.

A 2nd class upper from IUC is tantamount to 2nd class lower or even a third class from Unilag or OAU or UI or UNN or ABU or any other prestigious Nigerian University

the whole point of communication is so that OTHERS can understand what you are saying

@omosefe
do not presume that just because YOU understand WHAT YOU WRITE  that everybody else does. Please drop all the short forms and write legibly

most of us had a headache reading what u wrote so you're argument for your ALMA MATER IGBINEDION was lost on us.

perhaps people are here to 'deem' the image of your school. but you aren't doing your school any favour by writing in such an appalling manner. Apparently the fact that the past few posts have been critical of your (dare i say) anti-social writing style doesn't faze you.
A less sinister explanation could be that you're actually posting from a GPRS enabled phone. If so, then maybe you can be forgiven,

It's just like the secondary school, the school isn't good for education unless you want to go and play or something which is ridiculous. Go to Covenant University or other focused ones, Igbinedion is a horrible buisnessman and lack management abilities.
