Is it the sim that browses for free or is it some particular settings? I read somewhere that the phone number to dial is *99***1#, I also saw *99# (this is the universal one), now which one is the correct one for MTN (not neccesarily to browse for free)? I will be in Lagos in a few weeks and will probably be using MTN. So, I just want to get the settings on my laptop beforehand.

There was a bug in the configuration of the MTN GPRS system which allowed deactivated SIMs to still have the ability to browse hence the reason why it's free however I have it on good authority that it's been fixed so it's now no longer possible to browse for free.

To get the mtn gprs settings on your phone just send 'settings' as an sms to 3888.and it ll be automatically sent to ur phone.the amount they charge now is 75k a kb.on how to transfer that to ur laptop i guess u know that bossman.

Thanks! I already have the settings on my phone. Got it via the configuration page on their website. If that does not work when I try nextweek, I will send the sms to them. Yes, I know how to setup the laptop dial up connection, already did. mtn gave us free browsing then but i don't know about now because when i tried to browse they removed all my money to the last kobo sop don't depend on mtn.
