I Called My Step-Aunt 'Ashawoo' By Mistake
« on: September 03, 2006, 01:37 AM »

@ Seun,
I'm not allowed to watch nollywood movies anymore, after I called my step-Aunt "Ashawoo"
How am I to know what it meant?
I am a latino boy and my step-Father is a Nigerian, Nobody told me ashawoo  means a "call girl".
I had one hour lecture from my step family including a slap on my face from my step-Aunt
also I was grounded for two weeks. They were thinking of sending me to a bootcamp but not anymore.
I blame my step-Dad 'cause, he never taught me his langauge. I only speak English and few spanish words
i'm a straight A's student and I have never been in trouble.
I am suppose to get my Trust fund when I am 16 but now It will be when I am 18 or even 21.
I feel they are mean to me.

@nico

your just playing on our intelligence please, you knew when u watched those films that the word ashawoo was an insult at least in the way it was used. Abeg you just vexed and used the word thinking they would not react like they did.

Sorry about what happened but things happen, since you said it was mistakenly then you have no problem

but my question is
What did you think the word meant when you used it?
where did you hear the word and under what condition did the person use the word?
were you angry with your aunt when you called her ASHAWO?

he was probably angry when he called his aunt an ashawo. he must hav known its an insult but not aware of d meaning. so anyhowz i feel for you nico Sad. dnt worry your aunt wil come along. as for you guys that r crucifyin d poor boy, leave him alone, as if uve not called a million people that r older dan u ashewo. even if not your aunt, its stil wrong. since we r not perfect, den no one shld crucify him moreso because hes realli apologetic. Smiley

nico if your aunt doesnt want to be forgivin towards u even after uve apologised, den u forget her side, she aint shit and she aint perfect either! Wink

Dude, you deserve your slap o jare,  infact I'm surprised you didn't get more

You don't go insulting anyone, esp. when they're older than you or they're someone you have to refer to as aunt (whether step or not),  That's a pretty dumb thing to do for a straight A student

Hope you learnt your lesson.
