At what age should you able to have a boyfriend?

i disagree with you, because if you say that, most parents don't even know when their kids start dating.

Depends on what the term "Boyfriend" means to you.
I had my first in Kindergarten, he was my best friend then! 
But if you mean what I think Nigerians' mean when they say "Boyfriend", its neither here nor there.
18 looks good to me though! ^{(And yes, I'm from the Old school)}

Having a boyfriend... well i think you should have a boyfriend when you know you are ready to handle a relationship. Relationships come with pain and joy.... so you gotta be prepared for both! Dont have a boyfriend when you are not ready for these joy(s) and pain(s). But i also think 18 is kind of okay.

And what might some of these consequences be?

it's very rare to find a couple who aren't involved in a sexual relationship, so i think because of this a boy or a girl should be informed of everything that concerns this type of emotional attachment(dating oneanother). Now a days we see also 12 years old kids jumping into dating without knowing what they are dealing with. inconscence of this type brings problems into your life such as the result of the ignorance of the word Boy/Girlfriend.

I think 13 is a bit too young, what does a thirteen year old know? still a very tender age, I must say.

16 is the best...but be ready for heartbreaks.

i had my first boyfriend at age 16 but the relationship lasted for a year and a half.

girl take away that "but". it's like that 1 and half year didn't mean so much to you and we know how hard t is to find a relationship that lasts so much during adolescence
