I am just reading this today.

Celtel used to charge 10 kobo/kilobyte.

Why did Zain add 5 kobo?

I see no reason why they have to restrict users to 3GB maximum download.

Very true. 40 pounds is a lot for a 3 gig limit. I expect these prices to come down as time goes on and there is more competition. Heck! I pay $19.99 for unlimited data and 200 sms on contract with AT&T.  I used MTN's 500 naira/50 MB for 24 hr. plan when I visited in October.  I had to tether my laptop. It's not bad for temporary use.

« #29 on: July 27, 2009, 01:27 PM »

Maybe you can compare this aspect of MTN'S plan with zain's. I've got just a few.

You can get 3gb for just #2500 from 10pm to 5am for a month

unlimited space for just #10000 for a month.

But the 1day plan is still the same. 50mb for #500.

Its incredible that in developed countries you can get full data access for a month for a minimum  of $35 dollars and maximum of $68. Thats between #3000 to little over #6000 for speeds as high as 6000kbps.
This is because they use cables which can transmit large amount of data without high cost to the ISP. But in underdeveloped countries like Nigeria. There is need for satellites(which may lie 35000km from the earth) for direct connection and the cost of acquiring and setting up this equipment is very high, hence the very high cost.
