I toyed with the idea of being a reserve many years back
That $35,000 annual pay for reserves was very tempting in my earlier years here.
I have a collegue who is and all she does is a 2 week bootcamp thing annually somewhere in California and a one weekend/month at the nearest army base.
She's collected her cool $35,000 plus her annual salary for over 4 years now and no wars.
In fact they wave the trainings when you're carrying belle.

Like Igbo people didn't join ECOMOG troops. . .

Anything to get out of Nigeria will do.
No more power failure, no more traffic hold-ups, no more gun toting robbers, no more malaria etc.

Not for Alaba boys who make millions from their shops. All they do is send their wives to take a tour at the statue of liberty, give birth to their kids and return home. Cheesy

In the face of all the ills you mentioned which i had always found difficult to live with, many nigerians would still be reluctant to move if there were are many legal opportunities to make money back home.

I disagree. . . . . .
If a slave ship berths in Apapa tonight, many shop owners will tear their beautiful agbadas, wear rags and jump into it willingly.
A lot of people still see UK/USA as a place where $$$ grow on trees.

Um did I say otherwise? I quoted you cos you stated that there are more Igbos* in NY than Yorubas which is not true.

@Karmamod, I am not sure that is what I said. But if you wanted to tell me what I said is not true, at least offer me proof to confirm this. Not just tell me it is not true and then expect me to take your word for it.

Now, about blood donation, this is from the Red Cross site

Quote
In-Depth Discussion of HIV Group O and Blood Donation
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the virus that causes AIDS. The virus can be transmitted through blood transfusion, so all donor programs are required to question donors about possible HIV exposure, and to test donated blood for this virus.

There is a rare form of HIV called Type O that is found in western Africa. The available tests for HIV do not always detect the Type O strain. This means that blood programs must take special precautions to keep this virus out of the blood supply by not taking blood donations from those who have been where the virus is found.

Persons who were born in or lived in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Niger and Nigeria since 1977 cannot be blood donors. The Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for supervising the safety of the American blood supply, put this requirement in place in 1996. The requirement applies to all blood donation programs, including that of the American Red Cross. The list of countries with HIV Type O risk is based on information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where experts monitor infections worldwide.

It is possible that the tests used to screen donated blood may someday be improved so that they detect Type O HIV. If so, these donation restrictions may be removed.

So, Nigerians born before then can, and actually do.

No, I don't listen to that NRA loone.  I get my info direct from the source.  You hear about pirates off Somalia coast but you never hear about daily pirate incidences off the Bight of Benin and within Nigerias territorial waters?  Why not?  You see I ask questions and my questions take me to places that most people care not to go.

Noticed that the list of the selected languages was alphabetic in order starting with Arabic, Chinesse and ending with Tamil.  Conspicously missing though is the Hausa language. The inclusion of languages such as Tamil is a serious cause for worry. Why would the US government be interested in training Tamil nationals, a group currently involved in a civl war with its central government?

This development is something the government of the affected countries should really take-up with the US government.

Here in Nigeria, as a counter measure, I think the likes of China and Iran should be encouraged to start the training of Hausas for military actions.

Am sure Hauwa would have found a way to drag him in if it was the nigerian army, but the Armystrong has made it clear who they want and not Fulanis. I should also remind you that tribalism, nepotism and corruption is not as high as it is in our dear Naija army.
