Most web hosting companies have phpBB but not SMF. I think Seun has done a good job to get all of us to exchange ideas and link up.

Running a forum website is no big deal. SMF runs on php (4.3.3 or higher), apache and mysql, preferably on a unix server. Visit simplemachines.org, download it and read the installation manuals.

As long as you don't re-invent the wheel - I think we all like Nairaland just fine. Setting up a forum should take you a week (newbie that is) most of the time will involve googling since you have no php or mysql experience.

If you want a professional to set it up for you, it should take an hour at most (minus getting a hosting plan/domain name, since it takes the companies time to send you nameservers/DNS details and so on) they all come with install scripts these days, so really you should try doing it yourself. Google is your friend.

I think it is wrong for you to label someone a scavenger to stating what he/she will take to do a job.

You may choose to do the job for free while another may choose to charge even N100k, the onus lies on the person to make a choice.

While pointing out that the so called "scavenger" registered to make extort someone else, do you also notice that the original poster also registered to make jst 1 post?

The poster contacted me and I told him that I will charge him N20,000.00 to set up one for him and since then he keeps asking me to go ahead with stories like "I will be coming back to Nigeria in 10 days", "I have about $10,000.00 in my account but no naira", "please this is urgent, ok which account number should I pay the money into"

Let us be careful the way we accuse others as no one has offered to dupe the original poster yet and there is no guarantee that those who may elect to do this for free will deliver either.

NairaLand is runned using an already made forum. they are several of such out there, it all depends on your choice and your capability to correctly install any of this. There best from my point of view is phpBB, there are several others like phpNuke, InvissionBoard and SMF which is used in this site.

Writing a Forum like this is a big task that needs several programmers, I once started to develope a forum like this but when I get to learn that other existing CMS(content management software) was writen by many web APPI developers. If any one thats good in PHP has an interest in writing a full CMS should contact me as well so we work together.
