Flexibility of any course is a function of the person taking the decision,
Some people sees Mathematics flexible because of their background while some sees
it as not.

economics is more flexible, any one can do ican but you have to go to univerisity to become an economist.  put it this way,  economics is like the cake while accounting is the icing. accounting really pays a lot if you have an international qualifcation.

Course applications as regards job opportunities. I prefer Economics to Accountancy, apologies to our accountants, Economics has a wide range of applications moreso its a development programme, its sells hot in UN agencies especially when u have a higher degree. You can work anywhere please find out and make your choice. I hope our accountants will not crucify me, just my opinion ok

Accounting is more flexible. This is basically because u don't have to attend a conventional higher institution of learning to be a Qualified Accountant. All you need do is to take a professional exam like ICAN( ACA) or ACCA.Also, you don't have to be a commercial inclined student to take up a career in Accountancy profession. But you can never become an Economist unless & until you bag a degree in Economics. You will also have to be mathematically sound because you will be made to take many calculation courses like Calculus,Econometrics,Statistics etc.You will also have to appreciate so many Economic Theories some of which may look abstract anyway.I hold a BSc degree in Economics,HND in Accoutancy & Finance & ACA also.I found myself having bias for Accounting.Take care.
