I think it's really unfair! This law helps a lot but has la lot of disavantages. Now I'm sixteen and honestly if i should have a boyfriend I'd like him to be at least 18...but the problem will be I'm underage and he is overage! and i know that the day i will make love to him will arrive and to be very very sincere i don't think I'll wait to when I'm 18, cause when your body calls.... this is not the problem anyway the fact is that according to the law my boyfriend can be accused of sexual abuse over an underaged girl which is absolutely false! i mean i agreed so why is that my parents have the right to get him arrested? aren't my feelings more important? and of course if i slept with him is because i love him and not just for fun o because i was forced to.  I'm not saying I'm in this type of situation! i just need your advice In case it happens and i know it will surely.  |

U didnt sleep with him because u love him. U made out because u HAD the URGE. don't deceive yourself. Love and sex are 2 different things.
Premarital sex - R u both prepared for the consequences? U can't be too safe. Married couples sometimes mistakes too.

Whether or not a girl wants to have sex at 16 isn't the point. The point is, the society thinks that you are not emotionally capable of handling the consequences. Its bad when you sleep with someone without emotional attchment, but who says it's worse? i don't know which is worse, underage sex or sleeping with someone without love/lust, but that's not the point. I advise that you cool it. You don't stand to lose anything if you wait. You only stand to gain from the experience of your years. I didn't mean to offend anybody by saying that i didn't give e damn about what bible says but the fact is that i would like to keep religion out of this! I do not believe in it so i'd like you to give answers that can fit anyone's style of life! being an atheist i my own way of seeing things is quite different. and i still insist that sex without love is the worse of all and i'd never do it. this society thinks that everybody in their adolescence are in a total state of confusion and this is right but also wrong! this is true when it comes to the identity of a person: adult or kid?
but when it comes to love, we can't judge! all now that you're saying is just about morality and stuff. I follow my heart when it comes to make such an important decision and I know it will never fail me.

Any adult person over the age of 18 who has sex with a person under 18 (known as a minor in US law) can be tried in court on charges of STATUTORY RAPE, and sent to JAIL for a long stretch of hard time if found guilty.
It matters not if the person under 18 consented to the sexual encounter with an adult over 18 years old, as the charges of STATUTORY RAPE can and will be filed against that adult. Michellin89, if you live in the US and MUST have safe sex before you turn 18, then MAKE SURE that your partner is ALSO BELOW the age of 18 so that he flies under the law's radar and doesn't risk losing his freedom and future over ten minutes of intimacy with you.

I even think 14 should be the legal age. It was the legal age for many countries before our USA. bulied them into

She's in Italy, so the US laws don't apply. I don't know the specific legal situation in Italy, but in Belgium it's the age difference that counts: as you are over 16 and your partner is just 18 (less than 4 years age difference), you wouldn't have any legal problems.
If you properly protect yourself, there shouldn't be any consequences, as long as you are emotionally capable of handling it - and we're not in a position to judge that.

Reason is this (i think) - One girl will say, 16 is too high. Now suppose they lower the age limit, then the girl who is 15.7 years old will say what makes me so different from her, and so on, until the aga limit gets to 10 years.  But really, there has to be a limit, and you just happen (unfortunately) to be below it. I think ANY teenager should get some experience with life, get a little more mature, before considering a serious relationship and any heavy stuff that goes with it. I know its not easy, but , its possible. I did not attempt sex thruout my teenage years, because i would have thot the way most teenagers will think: grossly irresponsibly. Doesnt mean i didnt think about it, but i was informed. I knew all the possibilities and the consequences. |

In Nigeria, the age of consent is 16 (sixteen). A 16 year old lady can have sexual relations with a 70 year old man in Nigeria. In the US, it's more complicated than that. Example: " age of consent in Maryland." |

all i know is that putting a limit for a teenage to have hex is quite absurd when we have a lot of child marriages. A girl of 12 gets married and as the traditions requires has sex with her husband on the first night of marriage.
i personally think the reason of this law is to prevent young parents, but as we know what is forbidden is always what attracts. this is my opinion.
if a girl can get married at 16 without the consent of her parents, why can't she also have sex?

In this day and age, at 16 you should be facing your studies or join some kind of bible study school. Sex should be the least thing on your mind if any. This is outrageous that some of you are actually thinking of supporting this, When you graduate from college (university) and still a virgin, you will be glad you waited and achieved something first. what happens if you get pregnant? what about diseases?. You need to refrain from that idea immediately.
