In my own opinion, u stick to hat works 4 u. I have used lots of anti-viruses that did well at one time and went dea at other times.

Kaspersky,  Gosh, Aint dat a virus on its own

Like mr. Benz said whta works for A might not work for B. I would however reccommend constant updates (daily if possible) of whichever one u use.

My ratings
#1. Avast Home Edition - Easy to update and latest version comes with root kit remover.
#2. Nod 32 - Also very easy to update
#3. Avg Free. this one can drive u crazy sometimes as it detects some softwares as viruses.
#4. Norton
#5. Bull gaurd and odas

Don't take my word for it tho.U might get a differnt result when u try any of these.

@all,i use kaspersky but when the license key expired.i changed to avira and there has been no problem whatsoever. But u cant rely so much on avira so i installed a software called USB Disk Security.it detects all malwares in a removable disk drive and disable auto transfer of the malwares to your system with option for you to delete them.
Its one of the best application for stopping malwares, quite powerful and the heuristics operation is effective. All antivirus has its drawbacks especially in the face of a virus attack.

The bottom line is to update daily and scan your system regularly.

Do U have Tune-up Utilities or similar products installed on your system. If you dont get one ASAP.
Use It to scan your system regularly for junks and unnecessary files eating hard drive space and slowing down your system.
Also to disable all unused startup applications and defragment your hard drive.Give it a trial, its superb.

Nothing like Anti Virus. They all buy time. Don't go online if U don't want Virus. They all protect you for sometimes. ask experts.

Bit Defender 2009 is Great but Not so user friendly

Kaspersky Ant-virus 2009 is Wonderful. You Should try it

Here is the download link http://www.mininova.org/get/2635457

You need to install utorrent or bittorent software first. Get a free copy at www.download.com

Enjoy

And if tuneup utilities fail, you can try creating a new user account on your pc, if that new one does not hang, just move your files
there fast. A fast way of creating a new users account is to type: control userpasswords2 into run dialog box, activated by windows logo key + R   otherwise long way, visit control panel. . .

For me, Eset Nod32 is the best i've used. However, some extra caution on ones part also helps. Disable the autorun feature of your removable drives and when trying to open any removable drive (flash, hard drives), go through windows explorer by pressing the "Windows key + E" and clicking on the drive from the Left.

personally i think the best antivirus is kapersky
norton could not even detect anything
i tried mcaffe and it was just a plain dummy
the avg i used deteced everytin on my system as a virus and made my system very slow
my avast just brought more calamity and noise
my friend used bit defender and it nearly crashed her system
right now i am using kapersky and its proving to be a good boi

but i think its a matter of choice
or the type and strength of viruses u're expecting

The best free antivirus is Avast!  Smiley
And if you want to pay for an antivirus I would recommend NOD32 or Bitdeffender or Kaspersky !
