But if u truly love her, marry her and cherish the days you spend together, but also understand that, you cannot complain in the future if she needs money for hospital and so on. @ poster, does she av crises regularly, i ask this because not all ss av crises. I think u should go ahead and marry her, medically speaking u guys can av kids, dey will be as which is no problem.
Also for majority of ss patients their crises reduce once they enter adolescence, and she has passed that stage, i guess.
Guy dis is my opinion d ball is in your court but remember no one can tell when he will die, 4 her 2 live this long and even pass her major crises period i think u can go ahead, but make her understand u will be by her side.

i dont think u really love this girl u re talking about cos if u do, nairalanders' opinions shouldnt really stop u or encourage u into marrying her (from a post of urs). i guess u re lucky being an AA. leave story, go ahead and marry her if u TRULY love her (i hope u re not pitying her and thereby doing what is called the hero's thing). if u dont, back out cos u myt not be able to cope but if your love is real, i wouldnt mind being on your guest list. all the best

if u get married u guys wuld be happy and then have kids wit blood grp AS and then wen dey grw mayb one wuld marry AS, dts bad,
or mayb nt, den dats good.
pple make it wit SS anemia[not too often]
med institutions are tryn to control SS occurence, so maybe u could help by sacrifice, marry and maybe adopt and av one kid by her, dts stil very ok,

Take it from someone who knows consider all the pros and cons before you get into it. I've seen men leave thier wives because they said that the women gave birth to children who were sicklers. Many men run away from the responsibility of catering for people suffering from sickle cell aneamia. What makes you different from them? Is it this your professed love for her? I hope not because sometimes love is not enough. You must realise that this decision you are about to take is one of a life time, and can also be life altering.
Medically speaking, you are probably the perfect match and truth be told if you really do love her as you say you do then she should marry you. But should you marry her?
1. Do you have the resources for the various medical bills that will come your way? can you Provide for her and give her a relatively stress free life? She must not over exert herself both physically, and emotionally. Anxiety and lack of peace of mind like say worrying about an unfaithfull husband can land her in the hospital with a serious episode of crisis.
2. I suggest you see her experiencing one of her crisis sessions. it might last as long as three of four days. be there for the whole ordeal. if you go through that then you'll be better equiped to know if you can go through this for the rest of your life or hers.
If you honestly answer these questions then you'll know what to do. Good luck.
P/s It really can work. i know a guy who married an ss and they now have four beautiful kids 2boys and 2 girls. the last two was a set of twin. you just need to be dedicated and probably get her help in the house to asist with the kids and house chores.

YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING .Did you major in haematology if not then I repeat you do not know what you are saying. So you guys are studying for sickle cell carriers not to marry in other to wipe out the disease not for them not to marry AS or SS but AA no they should remain single because they were unfortunate to be born with the wrong gene through no fault of their own. |

Their children will be AS , that isnt the issue,
However just as the poster emphasised, the girlfriend being the carrier is d issue and rightfully so,
My thots on this is Poster, empower yourself? speak to medical practitioners, do not let love cloud both of your judgments, but also understand fully the implication if u decide to go ahead, as crazykid said, there is the huge financial implication, not to talk of emotional stress, or God forbid, loosing her b4 U can enjoy your married life,
Speak to ppl who are currently in the same boat, Do your research

A stint in a private hospital could cost about 18,000 assuming she is hospitalised 6 times in the yr thats about a 100,000. tht does not even include normal regular checkups or minor pains.
