I don't think it's a nice idea posting the video or the lint to the video. Some of us already have heard enough and are beginning to feel like, this thing shouldn't be discussed any longer. Of what benefit is watching the video..spreading the barbarism or showing the 'devils' in action? I will never be watch such a movie(?)

It’s quite a shame that such incident as that of Samuel still rears its urgly head in our society. Jungle Justice is a menace and an illegal system of purnishment. What has happened to ‘The Rule of Law’? Even if Samuel was accussed of kidnap, why was he not tried in a Juvenile Court? Why must we take laws into our hands when a stipulated system of judgemet is in place? When will all this man inhumanity to man come to an end?
This and many more questions i put before our government, media houses, security agencies, politicians and other personnels that act as watch dogs in our society.
The “eye for an eye” mentality will, as Martin Luther King said, leaves the world blind.
When the people lose confidence in the security apparatus of the state, what else do you expect? When a neighbourhood thief is released so quickly from the police station that you get home to meet him chatting with friends, what next?
Mob justice is not justice at all. It is a feud between individuals that gains intensity as others vent their anger in the heat of the moment. It is easy to get caught up in the thrill of things and a mob can be a very appealing way to let off steam. Instead, one should think before jumping in and throwing fists. A few punches will release some steam, but the dissatisfaction with life will return when things settle down.
I think it is high time for all of us to turn a new leaf.

when will Nigerians grow up and remove this jungle justice from their marrow? Imagine a 11 year old boy being torched. It is simply barbaric and animistic. Don't blame the journalist, he is simply doing his duty. Don't count on the authorities doing anything. The boy does not belong to the class of the protected.

I also heard from a friend yesterday that the police are really working on the boy's case. I hope they find a reasonable solution to it.

It is unfortunate that Samuel was the victim, however i'm not in support of caling for justice without seeing the tape! Come to think of it, this babaric act must have been carried out in the presence of the law enforcment agents, and what did the people that film the act do before, during and after this babaric act? http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/news/article08Police arrest 30 over lynching of teenager in Lagos By Odita Sunday NO fewer than 30 persons including six women have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command following the lynching to death of an11-year-old boy in the metropolis. The boy was accused of attempting to kidnap a five-year-old boy in the Surulere area of the city. The suspects were raided at the early hours of yesterday by a combined team from the State Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and anti-robbery squads of Mopol 22 and Mopol 20, Ikeja. The raiding of the area where the boy was lynched was sequel to a directive by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero and Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the boy's suspected killers should be arrested and brought to book. The raid was confirmed to reporters by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adewole Ajakaiye, who has recently been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. However, the police released one of the suspects because there was evidence that he came into Lagos only yesterday and was not in the city when the incident occurred. The lynching of the boy on Monday October 17, happened in full glare of the public at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos. He was set ablaze by an irate mob. The state police spokesman, Mr. Olubode Ojajuni told reporters that all the suspects arrested would be investigated to know the level of their involvement in the act. Those arrested were people whose residence are close to the scene of the lynching.

I think the thing should be tackled from the root cause.
Of couse it is a very hororful thin that these people have done. Though i've not seen the tape but have been hearing of it. I don't think I need to see it before feeling sad about it though.
What I will really profer is that something needs to be done to nigerian society and notjust the muderers of this boy only. You may not want to blame these people if you know what has been happening in the last 2-3 years. I am in support of outright purnishment of ritual killers but not of a small baby like samuel (please don't crucify me yet). Paying evil with evil is not right but it may solve the problem to some extent. I could remember that sometimes ago in Ajegunle (A.J. city) when armed rubbers were on rampage. It was this bungle justice thing that reduced the menace.
Why I said you may not want to blame this muderers (I'm not saying they've done well........infact, i'm against it) is that: kidnapping and ritual killing has been on the increase and the govt is doing nothing at all. The police has more or less been on the support of the ritualists (they are even accuse no 1). We have had stories of 1-chance that involved police men. In lagos, 1-chanceos the name given to danfo buses used for dkidnapping purposes.
Sorry guys, i've got to attend church service. I'll give you full gist later when i'm back.
enjoy!

Re: This is Barbaric! 11 Year Old Set Ablaze in Lagos. God Have Mercy on Us. « #42 on: October 22, 2005, 08:36 PM »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I saw the horor clip only this morning on "sunrise" channels tv. i couldn't believe my eyes. i imagined that boy being my son. it left me cold all morning. the burning question left in my mind is this; "why couldnt the pressman do anything?" i could just imagine him/her filming the whole sordid thing while that boy begged for his life. if he could still point his camera and film that scene then he should also be made to face questioning. he was there, what was more important? getting a scoop and advancing himself or saving a life. An eleven year-old life!

According to Edward Popoola, the cameraman wasn't a professional journalist. The horrific video tape was sold to them by a member of the public who decided on his own to film the whole scene. I'm not sure that it would have been easy for any civilian to prevent what happened in the end.
If we allow jungle justice to prevail, then anyone who hates you can easily get you killed by accusing you of being a kidnapper. That's not right.

Those who stained their hands with the blood of that innocent boy will never have peace in this life! Since they felt big enough to judge and condemned a human being so shall also be done to them.
