How Good Is Software Engineering Study In India?
« on: February 25, 2009, 08:19 PM »

Looking at how difficult it is, to get a very good place to really learn how to develop softwares using various tools.
This made me do some research and was able to locate an organisation in INDIA that i believe would be able
to efficiently teach the most relevant programming languages and tools (C,C++,JAVA,C#,SQL Server, ORACLE ) in one programme.

I want us to reason together about how good this could be especially when the cost of he program is (70,000Rupees) about
#210,000 aside, of course, accomodation and feeding.

Indians are maestro's when it comes to softwares and all but traveling all the way there to spend 3 to 6 months is a rather expensive option the question is can you afford it?

Relocating will not make you a good programmer. You can go to Silicone valley itself and still find programmers who are below average. Like most other areas, it is all about you and how far you are willing to go to learn what you need to. Whatever it is you feel you can do in india, you can achieve right there in Nigeria by applying all the same funds and effort. If you are not willing to sit with books to learn on your own, spend time practising, you are wasting time. And taking advanced courses (online and off) to grasp concepts you need to.

@Kobojunkie
My brother apply common sense when i say indians are good at anything software you should be able to discern and decipher that i dont necessarily mean everyone of them.I have also did some internship for them and when it comes to programming and databases they are quite good at it whether you acknowledge it or not

By the statement in bold, then we can as well say the whole world is good at programming and databases, yes or no?

Dude do you just feel like arguing for the heck of it?Go and find out the number of OCM's and Sun Java Certified Programmers and you would discover a significant percentage of them are Indians come to think of it why is it that most IT schools down here are run by them? They are good at programming and databases at least they are better than us and majority of nations across the globe

We all know Indians are the best when it comes to Programming, so it's not a bad idea to go to india in order to learn from the masters.

    I av dreamt of going to indian for my masters in software engineering. From the little research i av done before getting to that conclusion, Indian is the bomb in programming, database and software development generally.

@Firstposter: - If u av your money, the determination to learn programming and other resources needed, please go. u cant in any way compare the training u will get there with any institute in nigeria (Anybody can throw me stones becos of that)  Tongue.

Really??
Because indians are flooding the USA for their Masters' degrees too.
And Yes, Indians are overrated. They are half my class.
A small percentage are exceptional, just like a few other countries. Thing is, this is a small percentage of 1 billion plus people. So, that's a lot.

Here in the UK,Indias are the highest number of students in my Masters class.But thy are good.They are just here to get the certificate i think cuz when it comes to programming,Most of them are hot.

I have a friend in India studying professional courses too there and he said they are okay.At least they give me full attention and they do a lot of praticals(which is wot we lack in Nigeria) and he has to brush up the theory

India is still good from my own point of view to study this things cuz you get a lot of practical experience

We don't all know this. I mean I have worked with indians; a lot of them, and I have yet to see what you seem to see. Many come here to get their masters and work. So how do we arrive at them being the best? I mean if you said something like them being among the cheapest, sure, but best? You would have to prove that.

It beats my imagination silly so see people churn out claims after claims on things they cannot prove and on things they do not understand well.

Quite a number of Indians are into programming but this does not translate into mastery of programming.

Codes written by most programmers from India are poorly documented, even some banking applications (written by them) have avoidable flaws and bugs. Cheap labor is a huge factor in seeing India as a major outsourcing destination, another factor being the fact that English is not a strange language when it comes to communication.

As regards the benefits of going to India to study programming or not I weep for people who believe that going to India to study programming will turn them into good programmers.

For you to be a good programmer you do not need to travel to India or to any country outside Nigeria for that matter.

Knowledge is there for all to acquire, you can pick up a [fat] book as some call it, read it, understand it, practice what you have read and become a good programmer. Of course, for those that don't learn well on their own you can settle for a good training school to guide you but ultimately the main effort that will turn you into a good programmer will come from you and not the school.

If you cannot train your mind to think in a logical manner sorry you cannot be a good programmer. Programming is all about logic and application of any chosen and relevant language to solve real life problems.

Obviously, I was referring to MS in C. Sc. Since that's what we are talking about here.
What best selling programming books? Americans and East Europeans still write some of the best programming books out there.
And I am not referring to the basic Learn C, Java or VB type books.
Afam has said the true words. You can choose to listen or go to India firsthand and find out for yourself.

Majority of those idiots write very very bad code. I work with them daily and they are a real pain.

All they do is copy and paste code from the net . ask them to design or architect a system they will be looking like dunce

@Kobojunkie
Go do your research!I ain't here to save the world besides i don't remember asking you to prove you have worked with them before i only implied that they are good at it why is that so hard for u to understand?
