Hispanic-american Girl Dating A Nigerian Man
« on: September 21, 2006, 01:09 PM »

I need help understanding why the man I fell in love with thinks porn is OK.  Let me give you a little background:
I'm a Latina living in Seoul, Korea.  I meet a Nigerian man who I have been dating for about 3 months.  Now, he brags about the fact that I'm different from the typical American girl.  What I have noticed is that my background and heritage means nothing, I have an American passport so I'm American.  But, when I am able to cook rice and beans and spicy stewed meat that is similar to Nigerian food, then I'm different.  He started living with me, not formally, but just not going home.  This is when things really changed.  The man that waited on me hand and foot, and wanted to please me in any and everyway changed.  It became, serve me when ever he felt like eating.  Ex:  2:00am "Baby I'm hungry".  Telling me when to wash his closes and home often to change the sheets.  Now, I come from a Latin background where the men act very macho, and I kinda took a step back from the way of life.  I grew up seeing my mother coming home later than my father and still having to serve and pickup after him.  But, being open minded and in love, I became submissive and didn't everything he said, with a yes baby response.  Getting up out of bed, to feed him when he got home late from the masque or work.  One day, I'm making breadfast and he gets on the computer.  I serve him and he eats.  Later, I look at the computer and he failed to close the tabs on the search engine.  What did I find.  PORN sites.  Now, I got the baby I wont do it again.  But what has really hurt me is that he didn't see it as disrespectful to me, my home,my computer and our relationship.

Now, I am always getting crap about how western cultures is messed up. And, how Americans don't have values.  He is always getting at me about the fact that African marriages last because of the respect that American families lack.  How,the immorality of American culture is destroyed the generation.  And I never responded to his point of view negatively.  Even though I felt he was putting me down, and my home down.  Not that America is perfect, but to the extent he would go was borderline American bashing.  I took the submissive stand and let him vent.  But, always indicated that you can't single out all families and Americans.

How dare he bad mouth us and then watch porn while I'm cooking for him and they have the nerve to see nothing wrong with it, until I told him it was over.

His response was that I'm too proud and pompous.  I don't know how to keep a family together.

Help me to understand, Please

The world revolves around the Nigerian man, if your culture is the opposite of that, it makes things really hard

I can deal the fact that he needs to be the king of his castle and world.  But, I also have to accept the porn.
