Should Nigerian Movies Go Porno?
« on: October 21, 2005, 04:12 PM »

Some people think pornography should be introduced in Nigerian movies.

I think this is too far fetched. Nigerians should stick to the Africaness of their movies which truly makes it unique.  Copying from the western nations will make it all fake.

Rather, I think Indians can be better examples.  They still produce great movies without all these like kissing, fake accents etc. I'm not a Nigerian but I do enjoy the movies.  If these movies can help to portray Africa's image abroad then I'd say No to pornography! Cry

What do you all think?

I won't support pronography.. But i will realy support, real kiss and good romance acts.

You see people kiss in Nigerian movies, you see them saying they were having sex. BUT! For heaven sake, they don't even do this things and it just makes it more annoying. If they don't want to do it... why in the name of fxck should they fake doing it?

You see India movies, don't even go like "we r kissing" scenes.. they just kind of Twist the camera and do summin summin... But Nigerian movies... argh!

Did u see this yoruba movie.. where the girls acted like lesbians.. Gosh that was sooo Annoying. They were acting like they were kissing, acting like they were on the couch having lesbian sex.. But they had full cloths on, and their hands were like...there.. and it was clear they were kissing the cheeks... not the lips.. but yet it was alll like Bullcrap..and that was really disgusting.

My point? No pronography... but they should try perfect the little romance/kissing scenes they have.

It's not a matter of IF but WHEN...see what is happening to Nigerian music videos already...a$@* flying everywhere. that's now th spec. the truth is as much as we might not want it ...it will be pleasing to watch because somewhere in our minds it'll be "they're jus acting". That's the truth. Porno is now seen as a civilized thing...how funny.

Facts are, movies are what they are....maybe alot of sexual content or no sexual content. In america, every action movie or even comedy must have a sex scene. I mean in most cases very heated sex scenes. No doubt, thats creeping into  african movies. You already have that in most Ghanain movies and Nigerian alike. Thats the systemic movement of that trade.
On Pornography, there are already porno movies emanating from africa, first was in 1982. That a movie contained sexually explicit scenes does't give it the classification as pornographic , its rated R. As stated earlier, it was begun in the 80s but never was huge as the current african movie.

There's a difference between being sexually explicit in a movie, and pornography. Personally, I don''t see the need for sexually explicit scenes in movies. A kiss and maybe a move to remove the clothes is more than enough to let us know what went down.

As per outright pornograohy? I wouldn't mind having a share of that pie. Does anyone here know that the pornography industry is the largest industry around? Even larger than the oil industry?

This sort of thing is still seen as taboo in Nigeria.  Given the opportunity for absolute anonymity, most Nigerians would watch porn, but nobody wants to disclose it publicly.

I agree with Chxta about the porn industry being the largest.  Unfortunately, Nigerians don't think progress.  We're more into legislating morality.

Should Nigerians make porn films?  I don't think Nigerians are mentally/psycologically ready.

I am not talking ab,t pornography here, but i should say there is the need for this parts to be made real to reflect the reality in this movies or else nigerian movies will face crisis in the international market as it is today. To better of this i think there need to be some reality in the pornography or you guys better cut the crap off and just do like the indians. But i,ll also say there,s been alot of modifications in the indian movies....find out, in which porn and any other necessary parts are well involved.

Should we have to display porn to create real visual effect?. I see no point in all this considering the fact that moral decadence is prevailing in Europe and america due to what people see on the TV and media in general. Should we copy the good things and as well the bad things with it?

What you call moral decadence, they call freedom of expression.  One of the reasons that our society cannot develop is that we have hangups on a lot of things.

For example, which is worse: stealing billions of dollars from Nigerian treasury, or building a porno industry that'd be a source of billions of dollars from taxes for Nigeria?

I think nigeria should go porno.why not? We have nigerian action, thriller, romance and even traditional movies...so why not pornography? I think every one in this world should have a right to watch whatever they want to watch no matter who they are. The whole idea of a public enquiry about whether or not to make a porno is horrific! Why make a big deal out of nothing.... we all like watching them american, british, indian and chinese pornos and mojos. So why not put nigeria on the map.
I think the whole thing has a lot of benefits
1. It is going to increase employability for porno actors like me
2. It would create us with opportunity to see our favourite nigerian celebs up close and personal.
3. It would also boost the economy situation of the country....(Imagine  nigerians all over the world looking forward to the next episode of "booty talk nigeria" @ the price of N500 per video).
4. Moreover, whats the big deal anyway, there is nothing there to hide...is it? Since nigerians call themselves western names now e.gl  "natasha", "Stacy", Beverly" and so on, what makes you think those black booties you see in those western videos are not nigerian.

Abba allow them legalise the thing jo... ;D

at oasis, i wonder if you've ever been to the western part of the world. it seems u buy the idea of sheepishly following the ideas of the west since they control the media, the politics, the security and even the fate of the world.

To me i see no point in compensating an act of corruption with moral decadence. Freedom of expression, did u say?, i wonder if you become the president of Nigeria, u will ban the NTB( the board that regulates movies).
To me, i see no point in showing sex as part of the movies.
At least Bollywood(one of the largest film industry) rarely portrays sex and i think they are doing fine as well. arent they?

I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it.

What you're not understanding is that you're losing revenue in a lot of areas as a nation, because you have your little taboos.  You keep harping at decadence.  What do you call 419?  How about your leaders who steal billions of $$, leaving millions hungry as a result? What about your half-baked graduates?  How about all the religious unrests?  The west may be decadent, but how are you better with all your morality?  The west works!  Nigeria doesn't.  Ask yourself why?

Porno is a billion $$ industry.  We need to cash in on the windfall.

@oasis, i still stick to my guns concerning the issue of maral decadence. I think oour scope of thinking is affected by the environment we live in and hence my doggedness in saying all what am saying. The UK is high on revenue, but is it only through the porno industry that Nigeria can make such revenues from taxes?, THere are other avenues that we can outsource from like Power, transport(what about trains), The fact that we have corruptible leaders shouldt mean that we should jump from fry pan into fire.

To each his own.

I'd rather live well, have plenty of food to eat, have freedom of speech and religion, attend good schools, than live in some mythical moral society.

I agree, there are other avenues for making money.  But I bet none of them would be a billion dollar a year industry.  A country is no different from a business venture.  If you want to run Nigeria profitably, you have to think like a businessman.

At this point in time, most Nigerians would rather move to immoral land if given the chance,  than remain in "moral" Nigeria.  What does that tell you?  It means morality isn't that important on an empty stomach.

Speaking of morality, where is the morality in Nigeria today?  Give me a few examples.

@oasis, i consider the fact that money generation alone is a selfish idea without considering other ways that porno will affect the values that we hold as a nation.
Well if you say porno is good, or should be introduced, ok fine,  i wonder if how you will feel with someone your sister( if 4 example she becomes an actress) met on location caress and bang* your sister right there on the set while other people inclusive of the director, producer, extras and others look along in admiration, gosh....i forgot the people that such movies will be deployed to their movie screen. I bet you will be proud of her wont u?. what if the scenario above happens to be your wife, how about that?.

I live in an open society, where people are free to think freely.  There is a reason why the west is so much more progressive than Africa.  It's because they're explorers.  They do not take restrictions and censorship lightly.  Any law that'd limit their freedom of expression is fought fiercely.  That's why the ACLU exists in America, to protect people's first amendment rights.

If I had a sister who chooses that path in life, it'd be her prerogative.

Unless you heal yourself of this mythical morality you think you have, you'd always be playing second fiddle to the rest of the world.   The world is moving forward, you're still stuck in the dark ages.

Join me in the outcry against corruption in government, rather than expend valuable energy fighting something that at the end of the day is inconsequencial.

You can eat your morality.  I'm glad to live in a free society where thought is not impeded upon.

It's not your way of life because you're backward thinking.  You need exposure on how the successful world lives, which is - in freedom.

I prefer a society that has everything.  By letting people make their own choices in life, instead of making it for them via censorship and dictatorship, you'd be breeding independent thinkers.  The power of independent thinking and freedom of choice is what leads to a great nation.

Those who want porn can go online. We have our customs and we shouldn't leave them and do what others are doing. We should improve on what we have, rather than keep trying to copy the West. We can never catch up with them because by the time we are through rationalizing if it is good or not, they'd have gone to something else. The reason why sexual scenes in Nigerian movies are fake is - they are not our style, we copied it.

It's funny when people think we should throw away all we've held dear and pick up Western values in the name of civilization. Being an image of the US would only work out to our peril. We should be proud of what we have.
