well, at the moment i dont think he can influence the POWERS that be that he is the right man. he'll need time to do that and 2011 is way too close. im sure you know that to win election in Nigeria you need to know certain people? The POWERS you said. If you do a honest poll against others and He wins in the poll 2011. The the POWER that be would like to meet Fashola, but if he loss the honest POLL. The POWER that be would not want to meet him. He does not have to wait till 2015 if the people want him. It does not matter who the obtacle is. The power that be will clear them off, either human or otherwise. If fashola want to meet the POWER that be, then let him give me a call. I know the POWER that be, I can introduce fashola to the POWER that be. And the POWER that be can clear all road. And who so ever refuse too . The POWER that be would clear him off too. Any obtacle that the POWER that be can not remove either human or otherwise does not exist. but if he loss the poll the POWER that be does not want to me him. If the other person winthe POWER that bewould like to meet the winner. Let it be a honest poll and let people vote who nigerian want to rule them. Dont be bias. 416 904 5008 nigeriamail@hotmail.com

HOPEFULLY YARADUA CAN BORROW SOME GOOD SENSE FROM THIS GUY AND STOP GALIVANTING AS PRESIDENT OF THE HAUSAS; I PRAY FASHOLA ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING REMARKABLE IN THIS DIRECTION; IF SO; THEN OUR POLITICAL LEADERS SHOULD FORGET AGBADA AND DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL WHILE THEY'RE STILL RELEVANT. TRUELY OBASANJO HALTED TINUBU'S MOVE IN THIS DIRECTION; THAT'S NOT WHAT MATTERS; SOMEONE IS NOW TAKING THE INITIATIVE TO FOLLOW UP WITH ACTION!!! MAYBE WE CAN FOR ONCE HAVE NIGERIANS ENJOY WHAT IT MEANS TO HAVE A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE; AND POSSIBLY BRING OUT THE BEST OF ITS CITIZENS, ATTRACT GENUINE INVESTORS,

If Fashola can get this power issue taken care of; just this issue alone; even if he doesn't get to tackle anything else, my prayers for this man will never cease, and Nigerians should look hard at making him a top contender for the top job in the land. I'm very hopeful for Lagos right now with him at the helm. Hope he doesn't get distracted.
Top job ke? You must be joking, your gworo-chewing cousins up north will never permit such, anyone with good ideas that'll move the country forward is not their type. Where will all the 'kwantrackts' come from?? How will they get lobby money from multi-nationals?? Lets not deceive ourselves. Lets pray they allow him to develop Lagos at the very least. Those guys (Emirs & co) no send anybody o !!

Until the power sector is fully deregulated, this is really not a good idea. Even if the power plants start up now, they'd still have to supply the national grid before it is redistributed. This will only aim to help general power supply in Nigeria and lagosians may not even feel the impact. I believe a certain governor did the same thing and the people keep saying he embezzled money cos power is still terrible meanwhile the plant supplies the national grid

Another talk-talk. its incredible that we Nigerians are still optimistic towards comments made by politicians and co. What a breed we are .Even when we know what the outcome will be.God will hear us one day sha. Giant contracts so as to siphon huge amounts without notice. Very soon you will start hearing figures like trillions flying around.

Fashola's IPP is not really a novel idea, some states in the past have started something like this , what we want to see is power generation, i know of Akwa Ibom, the IPP there is complete and ready to be fired up this month. The delay which is always the problem in Nigeria is the supply of gas from NGC, dont forget about the Niger Delta crisis and most importantly our very corrupt govt officials at NNPC who dont want to see anything good from this country. Secondly, is the problem with our God forsaken and corrupt NEPA (abi na PHCN) who cannot gaurantee distribution to the state generating the power since everything is being directed into the National grid.
i pray Fashola succeeds in building the plant first, then we try how to solve other teething problem facing us in this our "center controls all" Nigeria.

@Babatony
I suppose it's too early to pass such a comment on this power project, as we dont have details. Let's wait and see what this entails.
As per the issue of supply to the national grid, I'm sure Fashola is aware of this. The NERC has been established to look into such issues. The government team did not visit NERC for the fun of it.
on a lighter note, I noticed some PDP appologists have come to this thread to rant again. Do they still think something can be done to rubbish Fashola to boost their chances in 2011? some pipe dream, if you asked me.

I think weare missing a vital point here.
First I must confess I wasnt one of Fashola's fans at the beginning. I just loathed anything that came out from the mouth (abi na govt) of Bola Tinubu. However, I must say I have been humbled.
But in the issue of power, the solution is probably IPP like the OBJ govt realised however, I am surprised that journalist and Nigerians in general are still falling for this thing about Lagos State (or Abia, Rivers, Delta, etc) having constant supply. The truth is the way our country is run, by law, any IPP is fed into the National Grid. Thats what our law supports and I think it came down from the civil war where it is widely believed (rightly or wrongly) that if the seccesionists had their own independent power, they may have succeeded in gaining 'independence'.
So, in as much as I support all the IPP projects including this one, I think what Governors like Fashola and Oshiomole should now be fighting for is each state generating and KEEPING its generated power.
If the above does not work, I have said it several times, Nigeria needs only about 15000MW of energy for stable power supply. Fed Govt, should mandate each state (and if possible, make monthly deductions from their allocations and do it for them. Its not as if we see what some of them do with it anyways) to generate only 500MW each. Thats 18000MW at the end of the day. Give them a 2/3 yeardeadline.
If wearereally serious, we know what to do.
Kudos again to Raji Fashola
I think you made a very valuable point about the issue of link to the national grid. Many people did not know that what Fashola was trying to do now was actually started and completed in Imo state during Sam Mbakwes govt in the 80s, and it was to generate 14000 mega watts to serve the whole old Imo state and provide a two tier power supply for th masses but Shagari and his NPN thuggish govt put a stop to it that it's federal govt alone that is responsible for supply of power and every thing must be link to the national grid and the dispute continued until the military took over power in 1984 and the whole massive project was allowed to rot away and power equipments were pillaged by thieves over the years and now it's covered with weeds and abandoned. It was built in a town called Amaraku in Mbano local govt area then. Poeple often talk or associate true federalism only to sharing of oil money but issue of independent of power supply by regions or states is very vital to real development but the northern oligargs and their southern friends are making sure things like power supply, airports, seaports and natural resources are kept in Abuja because they knew if they lose it, the attraction to the centre will soon fade away.

Interestingly, no information was given about how and what would be the source of the power generation in Lagos State. I am more interested in knowing what form of power production would be undertaken with this project. Probably, it becomes palpable in the 'blueprint,' I guess.

It seems this issue of federalism has actually become an albatross for us as a nation. The centre is very inefficient because it wants to do everything. Such things like power supply, seaports, airports, natural resources etc that would have been more efficiently managed on a smaller scale by individual states are covetiously cornered by the FG and yet they are finding it very difficult to manage them efficiently.
