I cant believe what naija is turning to and its a pity MTN is still investing in HIPHOPWORLD awards, it really doesn't make sense. For God's sake with the kind of album FAZE dropped I wonder why he was not even as much as nominated. I listened to his album word for word yesterday and I kept wondering what the hell is happening in this country and when they will start appreciating good music. How can awards keep circulating around one set of artitse irrespective of the rubbish they bring out. To me talent is talent, Nigerian award does not mean a thing

awards speak for you when you are no more in the scene,it makes your profile look attractive.hhp is still the most credible award in nija.

Eleshin I'll advise you to always look at things beyond your nose. If we continue at this rate, naija is going nowhere

the organisers of the award are human afterall, though they may get it wrong in one or two categories but i still stand on my point that hhp award is still the best in nija.

the nigerian acts are rolling out good stuff, but when would we start having live performances with live bands (and probably a dj), not the regular miming.

HHWA have really raised the standards of award shows in Nigeria and I must give props to the organizers. They have earned it. I know they will keep improving the standard every year.
However, in my opinion, one of the areas they really need to improve on is their selection process. They need to let people understand the criteria for selecting particular nominees for a particular category. Perhaps with that information, it would help someone like me understand why an artist like Mode 9's "Paradigm Shift" is on the list for album of the year, when P Square's "Game is Over" is not. I mean like, nuff respect to Modey for what he is doing for the rap industry in Nigeria. But that album can hardly be said to have enjoyed mainstream success or received as much airplay as P Square's. Perhaps there is something I am not seeing that the organizers saw.
I also think Shank should have made the list for Reggae/Dancehall.
P Square should also have made the list for the Best R'n'B/Pop Album
Timi Dakolo should have made the list for Best Male Vocalist. Maybe he didn't qualify because he only has two singles on air. Darey is a good performer but when it comes to voice, Timi can hold his own anyday.
Just my 2cents sha.

My own question is, why is it called hip hop awards, when every type of music is included in the nominations.

@opensesame 'not the girl' by Dare is absolute garbage because its wack as hell. The nomination of this song damages HHWA to point that it ceases to have credibility. It's a terrible, terrible, self - indulgent song that's so bad it is actually quite funny. I mean, has anybody actually listened to it? CRAP, CRAP, CRAP!!! Just because he spent lots of money on the video and got it on heavy rotation on major tv and radio stations it is suddenly a great song. Ever heard of the word 'payola' my friend? I wont be surprised if it wins an award either.

I wont be surprised if it wins an award either. Never really took time to listen to Dare's track because I personally never felt him from day one. But talking about your other points, most of the nominees fall into this category. They are just heavy weights and are not really shaking the country again music-wise.
