My housemate always tells other Naija guys which comes to the house saying this. Dont disturb Mama Ngozi (they call me Mama Ngozi). She is an agbero lady.

It is obviously a jovial and positive context. Cus the fact that they call you Mama Ngozi means they are playing with you and also that they imply that you are a Mrs Know it all who always has an opinion in every issue raised ( which i want to believe is a positive context.  ) |

ancestors in Yoruba normally translates as Baba or Iya eg Babajide, Babatunde, Iyabo, Yewande. I doubt there's a generic term. Cant think of a word for pride besides ako, which is a bit negative- it means stuck up. anyway, here are some translations of the names I mentioned: Babajide- Father/male ancestors have come back or risenBabatunde- Father/male ancestor has returnedIyabo- Mother/female ancestor is backYewande- same as above, I think. I dont necessarily subscribe to reincarnation for the most part, but these are common names among the Yoruba.You can also consider other names like Akinjide or Akintunde. Meaning royalty/honor has returned. |
