Can anyone believe that AIT, the only station that rued the day was sanctioned for showing 'unprofessional pictures' of the crash site. Are we going to ever progress or remain static or worse still regress?

I understand that AIT and Raypower were showing human body parts...live...on air How can a responsible TV station show graphic scenes on daytime TV, especially with soo many people grieving and unaware of their loved ones location. Can you imagine, if a child recognised her mother's outfit from a body part on TV? It is just grosse. It is highly unprofessional and we allow it all the time in Nigerian media (TV and papers)

it was indeed a black sunday yesterday as a whole 118 lives were lost (including the first lady) i'm grieving with all the families who lost loved ones and praying that the Good Lord Himself will console them..... @whocares, fine, maybe AIT showed unprofessional pictures but they were the first station to give us the authentic news of where the plane crashed. even CNN had no authentic news as per that. NTA was busy showing clips of the first lady as if she was the only one that died n some people kept saying some dignitaries where on the plane??? is it about dignitaries or being first lady??? to me its about the human lives that were lost n i feel everyones pain @seun, it has been confirmed that no one survived!

According to some of our media Nigeria doesn't have a nation wide radar system in place and that hampened rescue efforts. (also they said it's some times off because the power goes down to it)

Thank you gentleone. I personally called NTA yesterday and told them to stop airing false news because Yinka Craig was still discussing about Kishi when AIT aired the news of their discovery of the actual site. They were practically begging the rescue teams and security operatives to move to the actual site since all efforts were concentrated on the wrong site. About the human parts, i watched the clips and AIT stated that it was an exclusive video with clips that might be offensive so what is wrong in giving details of an event where the right information is not available. Moreover, the parts shown were human hands which can never be recognised. The so-called clothes that the victims' relatives would have relied upon were being stashed away by some people for whatever reason. Who wants to wear dead peoples' clothes? Does it matter where the relatives hear the news first? The most important thing is to hear it because even if AIT had not aired it, the newspapers would have publised the names today. Talking about the names, the manifest had been read before AIT's exclusive. NBC is probably following government's orders because some other 'stories' were considered offensive!

First it was ADC now BELLVIEW. Plane crash in local air space.not international? Amazing. I still wonder why these airliners put lives in joepardy by using 35yr old when they fully know that air disasters are fatal and the best measure should've been in place to avert such.
Bad Business for the airliners this time around. I doubt if i'll ever use any of them again.

Black October for Nigeria1. Crashed out of the world cup race2. Lost 4 of her soldiers in Darfur Sudan3. Lost 114 souls to Bellview aircrash4. Lost our amiable first ladyI believe this is the time for all nigerians at home and in diaspora to bury the hatchet of tribe, religion, political party, sex and all sorts to pray as a nation and fervently as God for his forgiveness and intervention in our country. Who knows what may come next, it could be worse......fellow nigerians its time for us to truly come together as a great nation...

Nigeria IS in the process of installing a nationwide radar system. The FG on behalf of NAMA, awarded a contract to a French company (Thales, i think) for this and it is not due to be completed until 2006/7. May God blot out the souls of all those who perished and be with their families left behind. My anger is at NEMA. Why didn't their satellite monitoring equipment pick up the distress signal sent? http://www.nigeriafirst.org/article_3531.shtml ---last paragraph. It was commisioned last year or is faulty already? Why then didn't their rescue helicopters go there? In particular, where was this helicopter when everyone knew there was a plane missing? http://www.nigeriafirst.org/article_3532.shtmlNEMA officials at the crash site don't even have shovels -see paragraph 10 http://www.businessdayonline.com/?c=45&a=2571Which one of you before building a house would rush out to buy electrical fittings, appliances and furniture before bothering to buy a single concrete block to build the house? This is another classic Nigerian case of wasting public money and throwing good money after bad. The head of NEMA has a lot to answer. He should resign but of course we all know that is not in our Nigerian character, fortunately or unforstunately. So he should be sacked with immediate effect. All credit to the Nigerian Red Cross. Once again, they're in the thick of it. sleeves rolled and trying their best to clear up yet another mess.

@layi, the plane was said to have been in a good condition so i don't think the problem is with the plane .......and even as at that yesterday, people were still flying not bellview sha o because they suspended all their flights @vonquache, there's no need to blame anybody and especially not NEMA. what could they have done if the control tower that heard the distress call did nothing???

The Minister of Aviation said "The blackboard is yet to be found and the forestic and foreign investigators are welcome but the reports of the findings will not be made public rather it will beshared between the Makers, Operators and the Bellview line.
What a shame of show, they are hinding something there for the public. Other countries of the world have publishing such reports for world to know. But in Nigeria, it's a secret affair.

@gentleone. Believe me. Even if the plane stayed up to 70yrs. they'll still say its in good condition since it responded. Planes are ambigious machines. They don't last too long. A 35yr old plane is OLD> I doubt if it would be allowed into American airspace. Its a timebomb like old humans.
You mean people wer still buying air tickets yesterday. Tell me sum'n. Well, good for those strong-hearteds. Wish mine was that tough.

Showing body parts on TV is unacceptable ! This won't even happen here in the United States. Family members do not need more pain than knowing that a beloved person died in a plane crash.

@ gentleone, the plane wasnt in a good condition, the pilot said..... But the pilot made a distress call minutes after take-off on Saturday night, indicating the plane had a technical problem, a source at the presidency told Reuters.http://naijanet.com/news/source/2005/oct/23/1001.html

May their souls rest in perfect peace as i pray that God in His mercies forgive them of their sins and put them on His right hand side. This is really a sad news, i was so shocked and sad that I told my family that I can and will never board a plane operated by Nigeria within Nigeria. Ibi to je ko nawo si... woni na owo sibe Awon a pani lekun jaye. I will rather trek than fly Nigeria planes even if the tickets are 1 Naira . May the protection of God continue to be on us at home or outside. I hope our nation learn from this.

It's a simple matter of ecomonics about planes an older plane, for instance a 737-200, like the one that crashed can be as low as a million to about 3 million where as a brand new boeing 737-NG list price begins at a cool 45 million dollars. However it's somewhat false economics, an older 737-200 uses an engine type called a turbo-jet which works on the priciple of moving a small amount of air at high speed, these have now be replaced by a far more efficent design called a turbo-fan which works by moving a relatively large amount of air at a slower speed. wikipedia has some great information on the matter If you want to see the list prices on boeing jets look no furthur than boeing's website http://www.boeing.com/commercial/prices/

I heard that the co-pilot had his wife on board, that means there's no doubt that the plane was in excellent condition before take-off... not until 3 minutes later.
