I think this topic is misleading. Nigerians already shop online. You can only say that it is difficult shopping online as a Nigerian. Many bloggers buy domain names, hosting services online. If you are shopping on websites that belongs to Nigerian, your ATM card may be accepted. When shopping on websites that are non-Nigerian, you can use PayPal, AlertPay and others. We shop online, it is just that it is not easy. Some websites reject selling product or services to Nigerians because of the activities of the black sheep among us. It is quite unfortunate that our leaders are not doing anything to help the situation. The legislature are too busy fighting over trivial issues instead of making laws that will enhance e-commerce.

The shopping online we're talking about is shopping to buy goods online from Naija stores with shoprite as prime example. you can all start it instead of complainingwww.niajainfo.com
He doesnt own shoprite Akinlabi; Wont you double check your stuffs when you receive them? ================================================= @ Akinlabi DUDE, read statement below ------> The person who put together you order at the store can deliberately remove something and claim it was sent to you, afterall it'll be included in your receipt. In this case, what can you do EXPLANATION!!!!!!!!!! If an item is included in your receipt, and you "DOUBLE CHECK" your order and SOMETHING is missing ------ What difference does it make? ? I'm not underestimating naija, but be realistic dude, are they gonna give u a replacement? ? or are you gonna report them to the police? GO FIGURE!!!! You're missing the whole point. When the driver comes to deliver your stuff, he will come with an invoice that itemises the things you ordered. You confirm and sign. If your stuffs are not complete. You do not collect them.

The poser is throwing challenges to everybody. Idea rules the world. And every good idea must start with basic question. I think this thread is one of the best that I have come across on Nairaland. The problems facing the country are so many that there is no need to go into them here. But most important is that of leadership. And when I say leadership, I do not mean political leadership alone, but also visionary entrepreneurial leadership, the type that can take a basic problem like the one faced by the poser, turn it into basic question and find solutions that will become an invention. Pls I am interested if we find more people to brainstorm on this to come up with viable propositions

There is nothing that is impossible, i believe so much that if we put our heart to achieve this issue for instance we would definately achieve it, one of the major things that is always stoping us from launchig out is the fear of WHAT IF, i bet all developed nations too had this problem, but right now its obvious it couldnt stop them. Yes everything as its risk, but it dosent stop anything from working out. Someone talked about networking, there are some GURU's in our nation that can put this thing together.
I dont see how i order for somethings and its not complete, the company would be held responsible and dealt with, in this age of nairaland, let them try it and see if they would go on scratched, the media is enough to finish them
Not everyone knows how to really use the internet, offcourse not everyone will be oppurtuned to buy things online, its not discrimination, its just the way things turn out to be
but my fear are so much, ranging from how fast the acceess can be because of he same issue of hold up,that is how long wil it take them to get to the customer? but that ould be worked out by ordering before u actually need it.(2) it would create new avenues for yahoo boys to expand their abilities, but it happens everywhere even in the develped nations.(3)one cant buy little, it would have to always be bulk purchase, etc
IT CAN WORK OUT, I BELIEVE STRONGLY.

If it can be done abroad, then it can also be done in Nigeria. It might take time, but in the future, I'm sure it will become a reality where Nigerians will be able to shop online. It would be too sad if the country does not advance for the better in the future.
Yes i agree with you. remember everything you see today did not just happen.someone made it to happen.you can be the first to make this happen.remember someone started nairaland, clckbank,nairabet,ebay,yahoo.msn.microsoft,the list continue To your success www.wiseinvestmentnigeria.com

To be honest shopping online is Nigeria is not that easy because there are certain factors to be considered.
1: houses is nigeria are not well numbered or well signed which will make delivery difficult for a store delivery groceries to a customer.
2: groceries have times of which they deliver and the customer or a representative has to be present to collect the goods and also each driver has a time length he has to deliver
3: traffic situation in Nigeria might not make delivering groceries in the afternoon or evening feasible as deliveries will tend to be bte 11am and 1pm when traffic is usually light.
even in uk and usa people still use other peoples card details to order for groceries and all they need to do is answer di door when the delivery guy buzz di bell and answer the name on the card the groceries was ordered in. not to talk of naija where it can take just less than 1hour to get an identity card in someone elses name. so its all about risk taking a someone said earlier.
which ever company or store will do online delivery in naija has to be prepared to take the risk and also bearing in mind if someone card is used fraudlently in other countires all you need to do is compalin and under cisa international refund policy as long as the amount is les than £5000 i think you will get a refund straight away while investigation is going on and it takes about 30days and if you dont know about it insurance will cover the funds. but in naija it will be difficult to get refunds becos even people card that gets taking via atm card while the owner still has the card with them is difficul t for banks to make reufnds some people dont even get their money back. so its a matter of high risk and who is willing to take it.

Thks guys for your comments, the main point in all of these is that it will take some time for us to get 'there'. Having said that, it is worthy of note that ionline payment for goods and services has already started, with some of the airlines, where you can book and pay for your tickets without talking to or seeing a cashier or ticketing officer. some shops are doing that right now but they are still very few.
It will spread to other industries, keep your eyes open God bless you

rather than asking why, we should be asking what can we do and how can we do it. yes we have these problems and challenges but have we stopped to find out how we can make a change. the Americans and other civilized nations don't complain for long. they step up and fill the gap. look for better ways to make this work and propose online. you can even make genuine profit from it.
that's the way to move Nigeria forward that's the only way we can make Nigeria move to the next level.
forget Yahoo boys don't forget Nigerians did no.t start cybercrimes, Nigerians did not start to shop lift online but see the world has evolved around it.
we have great thinkers and brilliant young folks in this country. lets open our minds and do this thing. after all when white man start to dey envy us. na we go still dey proud
abi no bi so?

We lay blames on all who have been responsible for our misfortune except the government, If these yahoo boys are mere boys without God Fathers in Politics holding top politiacl positions, I guess the crime rate would have been reduced to the barest minimal.
Just a thought, and my guess is Yahoo- Yahoo has come to stay as long as the Government of Naija still revolves around those whom we already know.
Until we decide to change as a people, first and foremost as individuals, and collectively as a country. We would still not be able to shop online.
