My two year old son's continuing record of destruction  Angry

dunked maids phone in the washing machine
poured a bottle of methylated spirit on madams laptop (we were scared he drank from it first)
disabled the dvd player - he keeps pushing disks into it when it is off
broken who knows how many dvds

and thats what i can remeber for now

How soon should you start sex education? And is it the mother that should be primarily responsible for providing sex education?

8

and why leave everything to the mother? You both MADE the kid, so you both should tackle it together.

Ok,next question, how much info is too much? I want my kid to be informed but i don't want him/her to be a walking encyclopedia on the subject at 8.

its not the job of any one particular parents to do the "talking", you both do it if its possible. however, if its a girl her mom may want to do it so that she can also at the same time educate her about the menstruation process. though men arent immune from talking about it, just that some girls would prefer their moms talking to them about such personal details.

how much is too much, depends on the age of the child. its not necessarily about bombarding them with information but with information they can be able to understand and make sense of at their current age. if you start around 8-10, you might want to limit the discussion to how the body works, the functions of each, the different parts etc. maybe if you start around 11/12 and up, then the whole boy meets girl thing can be discussed including safe sex, contraception, consequences, abstinence  and possibly relationships.  give them a comprehensive sex education not just abstinence only talk.

for how to begin the "talk" with the girls especially, you can search this thread because the issue has been discussed before and many great and helpful ideas were offered.

must say though, am happy you are thinking about giving your kids  sex ed. kudos! just that this one of the many things parents often neglect/overlook.

By the grace of God I am a teenage teacher in my church, of recent we had a series teaching on "My Body, His Temple" it is a sex education teaching on sex, homosexuality, lesbianism, masturbation etc. In the course of the teaching i got to find out 80% percent of them were novice. Though it helped, but it would had been better if their parent had taught them earlier.

Ok,next question, how much info is too much? I want my kid to be informed but i don't want him/her to be a walking encyclopedia on the subject at 8.

~You give him information based on his understanding. . . the more you think he understands, the more info you give him. . .Just remember to always answer his Q's as honestly as you can, continue to educate him w/ more & more details each time you have "The Talk" depending on his interest in the topic, his level of maturity & his understanding.

~ I also learnt having "The talk" should not occur in one all-or-nothing session. It should be more of an unfolding process, having series of "talks" one in which the child learns over time, what they really need to know. Questions should be answered as they arise so that childs' natural curiosity is satisfied as they mature.SoOoo i plan on initiating our series of "talks" rather than wait for him to come to me w/ Q's.

~My Hubby & I started having "Talks" w/ my son when he turned 7. .We've gone thro the "Good & Bad Touch" ,"Where Do Babies Come From" ,"Why Do People Have Beard On Their Armpits" & "Do NOT Play Doctor" stage. . .  His school had already started teaching Sex Education when he was 6. . he'll be 8 in a couple of months & i'm looking forward to our "Talks" &  expect more questions from him. . ."Birds & The Bees"?

~Knowing there will be those Awkward Questions/Moments i dont want to be caught not knowing the answer/how to begin to answer, I'm kind of ahead of myself on this one. . .i've been educating meself online on the "How To's" . . .I figured i have to educate me on Q's he's already asking,Q's he'll be likely to ask as he grows older. . . .my doing so have helped me answer his Q's as honsetly & openly as i can depending on his understanding of the concept/context of his Q's.
