You sound as though u've neither traveled out nor read the story. Once the luggage is checked in in Nigeria, he'll only collect it when hulled out at the destination. According to the story, he abandoned the luggage and returned the next day to pick, that was when he was nabbed.

I knew an ignoramus will jump on that bait no sooner or later. 1) Tell me where in the report, the guy was traveling from Nigeria? 2) I have never traveled out before. Is that satisfactory enough for you? 3) Most airports have dogs that sniff luggages. If you are oblivious to this, go and get upgraded. 4) He did not abandon his luggage. The bust was the bureau's biggest so far this year, it said. The China Daily newspaper on Wednesday published a photo of the man, who was not identified by name, handcuffed in a chair as one officer gripped his shoulder and another questioned him while pointing to dozens of plastic bundles laid out on the floor. The customs statement said the man was detained but did not say if he had been formally arrested or charged. Calls to the Nigerian Embassy in Beijing rang unanswered. I do sense resentment and condemnation over his act of desperation. Yet it astounds me the very same/or like is perpertrated as a subculture here in 9ja as in yahoo-yahoo, kidnappers, drug-trafficker, highway robbers, etc--- (trying to get rich by hook or crook). So why blame the fellow when a dwindling minority pursue an honest living?
Truth is, faulting this to our corrupt and inefficient government system is a tired excuse and as life gets harder and harder for the poor masses these acts would be common.
What is the legal recourse for this fellow in China as a foreigner?

@post, just like someone stated (and I quite agree), this guy could be mentally handicap cause no one in their right mind would think they could get away with that much drugs without being caught. Having said that, how do we know the individual in question is a Nigerian. Couldn't he have used a Nigerian passport with a Nigerian name to perpetrate the alleged crime. I sense some foul play here cause the story doesn't jell at all. Why wasn't the drugs detected when he checked it into a storage at the airport? How and when did they (Chinese authorities) find out there were drugs in the stored suitcase? How come they didn't apply however method they used to discover the contents of the suitcase before he had it stored at the airport's storage? And how in the world did he made it past the Chinese customs/immigration authorities without being caught. Finally, how in the world did that many drugs (including the weight) fit in that not-so-big suitcase? There are so many unanswered questions about this story o jare. Bottom line is, there's more to this story that's not being disclosed. Peace! |
