I apologize then if I do not see it as you do, my young fellow!! I take things like this seriously. These women have been so hurt and used by society that they do not even regard themselves with respect. Most of them see themselves as mere walking vaginas and nothing more. Society continues to push on them this image and they try all they can to build up an image of toughness to hide the pain behind it all. Imagine that same girl in the picture in a room alone, alone with her thoughts. Things need to change and it is not just from the side of the women but the men in our society. As long as these women are treated as rags, you will see more of them act out in the much the same way. In a society where more than half of the population live in abject poverty, survival of the fittest becomes the order of the day. Do you find ''aristo'' movement in such a high volume as obtained in Nigeria with developed society such as the UK where you reside? The answer is NO.
poverty is not the only dictate of peer pressure,belonging to the "cool girls on campus" or greed in not being satisfied with pocket money given from home is, trust me if you see professional aristo girls you will know money or poverty is very far from them. a lot of peole live in abject poverty,but what about the the ones who are from well to do,rich homes?what about the children born with silver spoons who are into the aristo runs?doesnt this show that the problems run far deeper than simply poverty? the reason you dont see a higher incident of aristo girls in the uk is because of the secluded way of living,nothing to do with means of livelihood, ask any nigerian you know about the many aristo girls in kent university,just to mention one uni in uk all the way to aberdeen fully paid for by aristos
If you closely watched that video - the girl freely used derogatory words to her feminine side just for the pecuniary benefits she derives from men who offer her money either for sex or as beneficial gifts of friendship. If every rich Nigerian who engages in Aristo truly worked for his money as it should be like, do you not think, aristos would be cubbed? If a Nigerian girl wants to study let her study. If she wants to go into prostitution, let her do that full time. But NEVER should they think our citadel of learning can be turned into brothels, which is a reflection of the poor economic state of the country.

I do not understand why people revile these girls but are able to tolerate 419, militancy, area boys, pen robbers (aka Fela) better. All these a symptoms of a failed society.

Our political, traditional, social and moral values has broken down, we celebrate corruption in our homes, villages, societies, churches and mosques. Hereby resulting in her "Levels Changing" by being chauffeur driven in a jeep and spreading some money around (including paying tithes), you will see every body singing her praise and giving her awards.
It is not as if there are not pedophiles or aristos abroad, it is just that it is not condoned and if you are caught you will be punished, whether you are a president, minister or cab driver.
I honestly do not know how we came to this position, where making it any way has become the norn.

My brother globalization has both the positive and negative side and it is left for us to decide what we really want out of it. China is benefiting from globalization and at the same time regulating the kind of information his citizens has access to not that i support all its actions.
We have to start somewhere and right now to correct these trends or we will be doomed in the future. Our students do not want to read anymore, all they want to have is fast success, people are also shouting internet business, investing in stock while missing the main priorities that we actually need as a developing nation.

Irrespective of the evils of globalisation, no govt or individual has the right or moral obligation to decide what the other party has access to. the easiest route to slavery is restriction of information. it is still a question of the individual and discipline. Even the religous leaders you are referring to are fighting their own moral battles. don't be deceived by their pious outlook and hypocritical comments. a few have won the battle and i am sure are trying to help the fallen and wounded stand but they are in a minority and issues of discipline are easier said than done. my disappointment with religious leaders is more to do with decay in the moral values of the Nigerian society (beyond issues of sexuality). even in developed countries where sexual morality is as bad or even worse than naija, values like honesty, respect for humanity,appreciation of hard work, timeliness and integrity as a whole are still ingrained and upheld to a large degree. Here everything has been thrown to the dogs. the political leaders you are talking about are the biggest patrons of these girls and boys in these videos we are talking about. why will students read?when those in positions of authority did not earn their positions by working hard or earning it? until we see this as a collective problem, we are stewed as a society. hypocrisy will only make things worse. |
