London has been the worlds greatest city for more than 300 years. New York only gained brief superiority after London was nearly completely destroyed by two world wars. There have been many pretenders to London's throne but it is stronger now than at any time in the last 100 years.

Dude, are you serious? Booming economies in both cities? Have younot heard of the recession that has struck wall street so badly that the govt had to bail them out? And trendy restaurants moving into old industrial neighborhoods? I think the hospitality industry is in for a free fall. lol

I hope everyone debating for either city has actually spent some time in each city.

Also, for the person that said New York has more billionaires than London, Moscow has more billionaires than either of them. Whether you want to rate Moscow over either city is another question.

NYC is cheaper for shopping and hotels/eating out etc but you just cannot compare it to London. London is so much more historic, cultural and more cosmopolitan. A LOT more class than NYC. NYC is a pretender.

London is an old tired city. . . . .New York has history and it has a lot of modernity. London is like some 70 year old former ashewo who's trying to get back into the trade. No competition!

I havent been to NY thou but been to london a few times and i really wasnt impressed with anything. Everything seemed too old for my liking and besides that, everything was just too small. Very expensive city compared to most US cities. I will comment on NY when i visit next yr.

Live in London for the past 17 years and been to New York a couple of times. Frankly speaking, no difference in my opinion, both cities are fun when they want to be but I found New York surprisingly dirty, . New York is just another London and in my opinion not somewhere I would like to go again for holiday. Now for shopping? oh yes, will go again but for just 5 days maximum. Equally as good, equally as bad!
