I don't appreciate Soludo's moves and lies. But for that position N12M is just too small. I expect double that, to match up the responsibilities. Come and ask Our bankers here, Many earn over £1M in bonuses alone. And they still send people's money into a black hole,

@topic,
12 milllon! What's the big deal with that? To be honest, any employer who plans to bring me back to Naija must be willing to pay that much per annum before I can even think to begin thinking of probably considering accepting the job!

Soludo is neither a bank manager nor is he employed in the PRIVATE SECTOR. He is a public servant and should be expected to earn something REASONABLE not OUTRAGEOUS as you would expect to find in the private sector. That to the side, I think 12 million naira a year is reasonable pay BUT how does this pay weigh when compared to his spending habits? Does it all add up or are they gaps that need explaining?

Poster, I think you should change the subject; people are hung up on the N12 million. I doubt if most people are going to the link you attached at the bottom of your post.
The real gist is in that link, the N12m is not the issue.

i guess it's 12mill per month and not per annum 12mill per annum is just too small 4 a whole CBN governor The chairman of the federal reserve ( USA ) makes about $191, 300 a year. You mean 12 million Naira a month for a NIGERIAN CIVIL SERVANT makes more sense to you?? KAI!!!

People making conversions to forex value for comparison should reconsider as the purchasing power in the economies are different. A better comparison would be the kind of house you could buy with the money in one economy and compare to a similar housing asset in the other.
NGN 12 Million is slightly below what I would expect for a CBN governor, but if what the article states is true, he is living above his income.
I have never approved of him as the CBN governor, as I felt he lacked the required skills and experience for the position. While his supporters will always cite the recapitalization and consolidation of banks as his prime achievement, the truth his that it was never the problem nor the solution to the problem. The bane of the banking industry, and financial sector as a whole, as always been (and still is) poor corporate governance.
His argument for recapitalization essentially stems from the Harrod-Dormar model which proposes that the key component for economic growth and well being, is the input of capital i.e. big banks make big economies. Same ideology is behind all the foreign loans and economic implementations that have failed in the past. The state of the Nigerian economy and the value of the Naira tells us the level of success of the move.
He argued that the consolidation of the banks would make it easier for CBN to effect policing. This notion is almost as hilarious as his installer, Obasanjo's excuse for increasing fuel prices in Nigeria as a deterrent to smugglers trafficking furl into the neighboring countries. The number of banks was not unmanageable, but rather that CBN officials were complicit in the doctoring of financial records that is so rampant in the sector.
All we have to show for his tenure in office is the increased unemployment from his consolidation process, the poor state of the Naira, and the affliction of the stock market.
Hopefully they let someone else have a crack at the position. Cant understand why African never want to leave office.
