it is 11.00am in mid august and your twin engine plane has jsut crash landed in the great salt lake desert in southwestern united states. you are the only survivor of the crash. both the pilot and co-pilot perished. you are uninjured.
ground sightings before the crash indicated that you were approximately 75 miles off the course that was files in the pilots flight plan. the pilot was unable to notify anyone of your position before the crash but he did indicate that you were 50 miles northwest from a stone quarry, the nearest known habitation.
the area which the plane landed is barren and flat and peppered with barrel and saguaro cacti. the most recent weather report indicated that the temperature would reach 113o. this implies that the temperature within one or two feet of the surface would hit 135o.
