Side wetin? abegi. . . . .The only phone close to beating the iphone is the G1. . . . .

its got a faster internet. . . .also has loads of apps . . . . loads of functions. . . . .and a qwerty keyboard which is better than the touch screen keyboard the iphone has. . . its got a touch screen too and a mouse ball (optional for navigation). . . . .Only problem is its battery life, but thats gona be fixed soon. . .with users in the UK getting the new battery for free. . . . . checkout its security lock system. . . .so unique, patterns instead of numbers. . . . Its the 1st version, so i expect a better version in the secong model. . . .

get a g1 if you can. . . . Wink

What? sidekick is so wack. .trust me I have the sidekick lx. Well, I liked it at first but not anymore. It's definitely for high school kids which is why I'm changing my phone before college in sept.

Besides that, it doesn't have much features. Yes, it has internet and IM and incures a bill of $20 every month which is unlimited(nice, right?) but this internet is just for gmail, yahoomail, facebook mobile(which is crappy anyway), myspace, nairaland, etc Try going on youtube  Shocked I mean you can go on the site, you just can't watch the video.

In addition to the above mentioned, its camera quality is poor!! Take a few pictures and the memory card is full, store a few songs and it's full. . .unless you buy an additional memory stick.

Iphone is alright. . .more songs, videos, touch screen, which is cool(I liked sk because it flips Embarrassed) my friend just got the Iphone 3G, I'm contemplating on whether to buy that or the G1.

Now, another really cool phone is the samsung omnia, it's touch screen and it is way better than the above mentioned. my brother has it. Funny thing is he didn't buy it himself, he got it as a gift but I think it's really expensive that is if you don't sign a contract with a specific company. This means you can use with any company including your current phone company and get the same bill. But without that, it's $99.99 for verizon or is it at&t but your bill is gonna be so huge.

Lolz, I use t-mobile. . .sidekicks are only distributed by t-mobile but like I said, I'm finna change my sk.

I'm also on a family plan, my phone incures less than $10 per month anyway Cuz I have free t-mobile-tmobile calls, fave 5 and all that. .my whole family uses t-mobile so i don't even have to add them to my fave 5 plus most of my friends use t-mobile. My fave 5 are for those who do not use t-mobile. Basically, my monthly phone bill isn't that much, it's just the $20 unlimited internet and IM. . .and I need my internet and IM. Cheesy

Nah, the latest is sidekick '08, the lx(which I have is the one before the slide, the slide is after the lx and the lx is after the 3). .I can't say which the best is but it's between the lx and '08(nobody bothers about the sk 3, slide or ID anymore, they're so useless). I personally like my lx better than the '08, the '08 is smaller, it still doesn't play youtube videos, it's just smaller. What I like about the '08 though is that it comes in many colors . . Green purple, black. But the lx is just blue and brown.

If you're choosing between sk and iphone, I suggest you get the iphone. Sidekick is out-dated now. Where have you guys been? Cheesy

WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD!!!

lets see if we can put things into perspective. the common iphone gripes are:

1. syncing with itunes
2. non removable battery
3. lack of MMS
4. Bluetooth FTP
5. copy and paste
6. video cam

lets start off with item 1

SYNCING WITH ITUNES

the best known apple gadget is undoutedly the ipod. Apple has sold over 100 million ipod variants over the years, and the iphone is touted as the best ipod ever by Apple. not 'the best PHONE ever", but best "IPOD EVER".  since the iphone is mostly a multimedia device that also doubles as a phone, it stands to good reason the main initial target market was those millions of ipod owners. thats a solid, ready market. now those ipod owners equal millions of people who already know how to sync with itunes and are okay doing it, not to mention the giga bytes of itunes purchases they already own from down the years. surely Apple wouldnt want millions of poeple to lose their itunes purchases by doing away with itunes (which incidentally is tied in deep to itunes store).

if i already have a solid customer base (potentially at least) running into the millions who already are used to one way of managing their devices, does it make sense to alter that model? these days every PMP device already syncs with some software or other and the reason isnt too farfetched: our data has grown into the multi-gigabyte range, meaning MANUALLY managing that tremendous collection is a hassle. in the days of 8mb, 16mb, 32mb and 64mb storage media, manually organizing and uploading content was easy. now, in the time of 250gb SSD and 120gb ipods, its sensible to engage software assistance to manage data.

my own personal music collection is a mere 18gigs but i have over 700gb of videos and TV Shows, and frankly im okay selecting what i want on my device, clicking sync and walking away to granb a snack.

NON REMOVABLE BATTERY

we all love those china phones with their dual batteries, thats because we are in a country bordering on perpetual blackout. being able to swap out a near dead battery helps. but here is the deal on the iphone:

designing a removable battery on the iphone means one of two things, according to Apple:

1. smaller battery and therefore less power
2. a bulkier iphone because of allowing for a battery compartment and insulation.

clearly to keep the iphone slim and well designed, none was an option. also, the ipod doesnt have removable batteries and the owners arent complaining (though to be fair, ipod batteries last longer).

LACK OF MMS

MMS stands alogside WAP/WML as technology bred simply because it was possible, not becuase it was required. MMS has not taken off anywhere, and mobile email has placed the future of MMS in jeopardy. no carrier has figured out how to make MMS attain mass appeal and profitability. for all intents and purposes, its a little-used gimmick.

however MMS support is coming via the 3.0 iphone update.

BLUETOOTH FTP

why was bluetooth named "Bluetooth", after a little-known Danish king? because its chief proponents are Nokia and Ericsson, both Scandinavians!

seriously, though, Apple expects everyone to fill up their iphone/ipod touches with content from Itunes Store. until recently any media from that store is FairPlay'd (DRM) to one account and is non-transferable, clearly, Apple wouldnt want users to buy one tune and beam it to people who otherwise would spend their 99 cents on Itunes Store. This model is not entirely different from almost any music store locking their content with anti-piracy measures.

on a related note, even the much-maligned DRM lock is at the instigation of the Music labels who steadfastly refuse to sell DRM-free tunes without charging more.

since supposedly the iphone engine is tied to Apple's FairPlay measure it makes sense blocking means of illegally spreading copyrighted content. like i said, Apple expects iphone users to buy content from  Itunes, with those content locked to individual accounts. for balance, consider that music beamed via wifi on Zune expire after a certain time period. Even microsoft doesnt wat people sharing music!

however i still think at leats sharing photos should have been enabled via bluetooth on iphone. in any case, bluetooth P2P is coming via the 3.0 update.

COPY and PASTE

an unforgivable oversight. to be remedied by the 3.0 software.

VIDEO RECORDER

that 2mp camera will only blur videos, though third party apps exist that allow the functionality to those who absolutely must record their inane moments.

i hope people understand that first and foremost iphone is a MEDIA device, with corporate functionality thrown in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(I'm a lttle bit slow on all these technology stuff. ~cough~  Grin)

WIFI (wireless fidelity, geekily known as 802.11) is the wireless technology that allows for the existence of WLAN (Wireless Lacal Area Network)

they are mostly used interchangably, and thats okay.

LOL, sidekick is not $500, the price has even gone down now. when I got mine, it was @299.99

But ok, since you got everything on lock down. their shipping is fine, they recently shipped me a new lx when the scroll ball of the first one stopped working, I didn't even pay for the new one, it was covered.
