I too have  a strong underarm odour for a woman.  I've tried all kinds of different deordorants and none works, i still sweat under my arm and its embarrasing.  Especially when am attending a specail occasion, and have on my good clothes, it gets stained up and smelly, and  when i start sweating it gives off a high scent from my deodorant which i hate.  I dont know if it have anything to do with my nerves because when am round certain people, i get really tense and nervous and i sweat more.  Any suggestions anyone? Does she shave her under-arm? If no, tell her to shave it all off, if she does shave;

She should shower twice a day and focus on scrubbing the under-arm  Lips sealed

at night before bed, after shower & shaving, she should put baby powder

she should wear light clothes or maybe a singlet to keep her armpit dry

she needs to get a strong anti-perspirant

DISCOURAGE HER FROM PUTTING PERFUME UNDER HER ARM (thats if she does), its a no no!!!

Discourage her from MIXING perfumes together (thats if she does ) --- thats bad bad bad!!

As her dude, get her one good AUTHENTIC perfume, maybe as a gift,  These smell good, sultry and sexy ,

Many peeps with bad odour are unaware that they smell. Scientific research has shown that some people cannot detect certain molecules; so while their nose may register the smell of garlic. . .it cannot recognise smells emanating from their own body!

Yeah. Apart from the 'rubbing lemon into the armpit' thingy, she could squeeze a half lemon into her warm bath water , b4 bathing. And continue this 2ice a day for a few weeks. Results guaranteed!

Hi,

If your personal hygiene practice is good and no doctor/dentist could explain why you have persistent bad breath or body odour, then it could be that you are suffering from Trimethylaminuria (TMAU). No amount of bath, shower, mouth brushing or mouthwash will stop you from smelling if you have TMAU. I would advise you to go and get tested for TMAU. The main problem with this health problem is that most doctors worldwide know nothing about it. If you are in the UK I will be able to advise you on how to go for the test.

Symptoms (copied from Wikipedia.org)
Trimethylamine builds up in the body of patients with trimethylaminuria. The trimethylamine gets released in the person's sweat, urine, reproductive fluids, and breath, giving off a strong fishy or body odor. Some people with trimethylaminuria have a strong odor all the time, but most have a moderate smell that varies in intensity over time. Individuals with this condition do not have any physical symptoms, and typically appear healthy.

The condition seems to be more common in women than men, for unknown reasons. Scientists suspect that female sex hormones, such as progesterone and/or estrogen, aggravate symptoms. There are several reports that the condition worsens around puberty. In women, symptoms can worsen just before and during menstrual periods, after taking oral contraceptives, and around menopause.

This odor varies depending on many known factors, including diet, hormonal changes, other odors in the space, and individual sense of smell.

Body odor has always been with us(mammals) for as long as evolution has been going on. However, human body odor became a social issue only with advantage of anti-perpirants/deodorants/shaking creams, etc.

Can you imagine how people got together before these products were invented and aggressively pushed into the market with billions of dollar worth of advertising? That was one question from one of my second year medical school exams?

The answer: Body odor has not always been seen as a problem. Hopeless, and blind new borns identify their mothers by smelling her body odor and then breast milk. Body odor plays very strong role in sexual attraction--- ie where the concept of phremones came from. The concept of compatible chemistry comes from attraction and arousal from a particular body odor---mostly from the opposite sex. It's not uncommon to see people sniffing sweat soaked clothings of their lovers, or lovers to be. That has to do with chemistry, it's no joke, and has been around since we were hunters and gathterers on the field.

This not an article in support of dirty and unhygienic conditions, far from it. Instead, I mean to say that body odor has important role in our evolution, mating, and nurturing of the young.

If you are a clean person and have persistent body odour, I would advise you not to waste your money on any product. Educate yourself about the condition through Internet research and then work with your doctor to find a solution to the problem.

Read the below information to understand what am talking about.

All people smell when they don't bathe often enough. Sweat doesn't smell when it first reaches your skin. The odor comes only after bacteria or fungi on the skin's surface break down the fat in sweat to form chemicals that smell.

Most sweat glands produce sweat that contains no fat, but the sweat glands around the breasts, genitals and armpits produce sweat that contains fat. Most people prevent body odor by washing these areas frequently to reduce the number of bacteria on the skin's surface. The vast majority of people can prevent body odor by 1) bathing frequently; 2) changing underwear and socks daily, because underclothes retain skin debris that bacteria break down to cause odors; 3) using deodorants that contain low levels of bacteria-killing metals such as aluminum, zinc or zirconium; and 4) using powder under the armpits and groin to keep the skin dry, which prevents bacteria from growing. Bacteria grow rapidly on wet skin.

If you do all of these things and still have an odor, something is wrong. The most common cause of unusual body odor is a skin infection. An ammonia odor is caused by infection with Helicobacter, the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers, or by eating too much protein. Ask your doctor to draw a blood test for helicobacter. If it is positive, you can be cured with antibiotics. If it is negative, you may need to eat less meat, fish, chicken and dairy products. When you take in more protein than your body can use immediately, your body strips ammonia from protein to make you smell like ammonia. A fish odor is caused by taking choline supplements, by a hereditary condition called trimethylaminuria that requires avoiding fish and other dietary sources of choline, or by a vaginal infection caused by a bacteria called Gardnerella. People who have damaged livers can also develop body odor that smells like fish. Damage to the liver can destroy the chemical that breaks down choline.
