sorry,have been awol for a while,it's just the work factor.
have been trying to follow the forum to the best of my ability.
as per the electricity issue,my own 1kobo is that any nation wanting to advance both in technology or otherwise needs to have a stable supply of electricity,without it,it's gonna be 1 problem after the order.the generator should be a backup plan and not the main appliance.
i am looking forward to that great day when there wouldn't be curses thrown at the power company in naija again.

@heroes1983, let me personally welcome you here. We are very glad to have colleagues abroad identifying with this forum.
The first step to take when you arrive Nigeria after your course is to officially register with the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria. You'll also need to join the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria-the parent association of all Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigeria. I have also figured out that you have a biase for oncology. The Society of Cellular Pathology Scientists of Nigeria is an interest group of choice too. Just keep in touch. You'll have all information to get you on course.

thanks for keeping the forum moving. My absence was not deliberate. It is as a result of one of the nagging problems we contend with in all aspects of our lives as Nigerians. If not power problem today, it is going to be ISP problem tomorrow. Actually, my ISP have been fumbling of recent hence I had to be hopping from one cyber cafe to another in the interim to keep in touch.
But I must say I am really proud of you. You have proved you can keep this forum on and on by your useful contributions and response to querries raised by members. It is very nice having you around.

I work in any of the above - one have to be multi-disciplinary these days.

By the way, which degree is yours, a co-terminus one or similar?

Two months work is not enough to do your portfolio am afraid.   You need at least a year, or in most case two. I guess the portfolio you are referring to is the on for your course and not the whole thing for the IBMS/HPC.

Look at various topic you have been taught. Then you consider what is expected of you, how long the presentation should last, what materials to use - board, power point or a combination of both.  Ideally, you would be given a list and then you can take from it.

One of the popular topics usually evolves round blood disorders. This can be easily presented on a board and several point based explanation made on your part. For microbiology, look at a life cycle of a known organism that have health implications etc. . . . You could get specific and more detailed, but Ideally your presentation would last a max of 10-15mins. Meaning you may not have all the time to dwell into certain areas.

Remember that you would have to work at least 3months in each area or so before you complete your IBMS/HPC registration portfolio.

Its all inclusive. IBMS/HPC registration is the only reason for the placement

lol-------We're not cheating oooo. For some reason, they seem to think they don't have enough people in the profession, so these group of NHS are using a scholarship scheme to woo us,   

Thanks for your advise, I don't think my  course facilitator will be of much help though, trust me 

We change departments each week and the placement is split between 2 hospitals.
We're not under just one person as well----lol
Its a bit all over the place really.

Dont worry,  ,  ,  , the group of NHS are my potential employers once I graduate as long as i pass, except if i dont want to work with them ofcourse. They pay the 3yrs tuition, accomodation during placements and they pay us band 5 salary during placement-----surely they won't want all that to go down the drain

Thanks mates,  (dominique and benard) for your help and advice. guess all i have to do now is enroll for NYSC and hope to be sent to lagos. jezz the tot of that sends charges down my spine. hope this NYSC wahala just a cliche. one problem though - i cant google out the addresses or any of these associations. just wanted to see if there are any requirements before being a member. some guy told me that i would have to take some courses on tropical diseases or something like that before i can get enlisted to the Cellular Pathology Scientists of Nigeria. can anyone confirm it, please? ill be finishing this year and i hope to meet more laborants when i get back,  ill keep in touch.
