Dan was very good at his job.
He showed exceptionally good skills.

For over a decade, he contributed immensely to the media (radio)
He came to Nigeria when most expatriates deared to come (Abacha Years)

His family lives in Nigeria i suppose.  He loves Nigeria, He is married to a Nigerian.

I don't know him personally. I guess if he is not important, this thread won't generate so much interest.

Nobody should break our laws but was he given a legal representation?
Could the immigration service be more flexible in approach.
I dont mean double standards.
Did they follow the due process?

These are the questions we should be  asking ourselves.

Instead of the legality of him overstaying.
Am sure any reader here have a cousin or friend living abroad.

If the immigration service of other countries are so rigid. Alot of us would have been deported.

He should have been allow to see a lawyer, since he is married to a nigerian and have children, he should not have been deported.
There is what they call compassionate ground. He should have apply for resident permit. He may have, but with the nigeria system, even if he apply, the system is so bad, that it would take him may 5 years to get a call. Nobody knows.

If he is Africa america, he can do a DNA test, if the DNA test shows he is from a nigeria ethnics group. He as a right to citizen. Since the nigeria constitution allows for root as the means of showing your citizen. He could sue them too.

I cannot believe this! No pictures to support your motion? Shocked Grin

If he has overstayed, he should be send home.

What does the law say? I dont know.

If the law says "for contributing to the country" you can be
left alone, then fine. Anything outside that, bye bye to him.

@ADEOMOLE, Are you admitting you are an illegal immigrant? Illegal immigrants should be sent home, regardless of whatever. Shiiiit!

Thats one of the radio presenters who shaped the radio industry well. Damn Dan foster, Damn, How could you have such error and not correct them?

i think he felt just because he married a nigerian,he has the right to stay. at least he should have gone to check this up and no wahala.he will be okay. f--k!!!

That guy cant come back to Nigeria cuz once you are an illegal immigrant.there is no way they can let u back in(Nigeria fit allow am sha, no b Naija)

But sad. Cool fm should be ashamed of themselves.they should be sued also because it mean Dan han an illegal status when he was working with them and they knew.

Stupid people.  So they cant find some1 else to replace him. they are scared of competition.

When his old company heard he was with us, they sent immigration after him but we sorted everything out.

On the one hand, this is vindictive power play.Sources from the grapevine have it that even while he was still with Cool FM(a Lebanese-owned outfit, and we know how not-so-transparent they can be) that there were still irregularities with his papers and permits, but that their protocol in cahoots the men at CONTEQUE and immigration found a way round the system. Lips sealed Lips sealed Lips sealed

On the other hand though,Dan could not claim ignorance of those irregularities and knowing that he was dining with the devil,he ought to have gone for a longer spoon by regularising all those irregularities in his immigration status, even before dumping cool FM for Inspiration FM.

Did he ever think they'd go down without a fight, how nasty not withstanding?

On the one hand a gainfully employed professional American has been deported and on the other hand people are bribing their way through customs; what a publicity charade!!

People are strolling across the borders into Nigeria and we are starting our border controls with an American?
Well, fair enough his papers or whatever had expired and he needs to re-apply but the whole hooplah is uncalled for.

what you people do not know is the africa america yorubas, which we estimate to be about 7 to 10 million in the USA, have citizen right like any of you. And they can vote and even carry passport.

he is black. the immigration service is in trouble if is DNA comes out to be a nigeria ethnics group. the man can sue. he can apply for nigeria passport if his DNA comes out positive. .

Even if he's married to a Nigerian, he still needs to put in PAPERWORK to make his stay in Nigeria legitimate.

Opinions are divided about this issue, just as it should
No doubt, Dan Foster has done so much to radio in Nigeria (Lagos especially)
For not having necessary papers, I would say that was quite unexpected of a person like that
But we know something is true, COOL FM engineered this. If they are afraid of competition, why did they allow him to leave them?
I am bitterly disappointed by the antics of management of the once-beloved radio station Angry Angry Angry

Lie, Lies, Lies!

Dan Forster is in the US on vacation.I met him sometime in January when he was arrested by immigration and he said a whole army of Intercontinental Bank lawyers followed him.He was delayed, but was released later the same day.

The story about Cool FM's boss hauntin him is true cos he said he got threats from his former boss to stop him from leaving his station. He got told that if he leaves, he won't be able to work anywhere else.

I expect that the financial might of Intercontinental that employed so many lawyers will have sorted the whole thing out (by hook or crook). Also, i believe it was a strategic move to get married to a Nigerian which gives him the legal right of abode.

Leave the guy alone people!!!

I just luv dis station; COOL, yet naughty and gangster-ish!! Cool Fm has just been better off without Dan Foster,so what is d f@#k about the management fearing competition? Moreover, they've got themselves two new expatriates (Aaron Johnson and Hustlekidd). Cool Fm is still on top of the radio entertainment game. No one has got swagger like them.

Dan Foster left his former employers in an ungrateful manner. Do u tink its easy employing an expatriate & helping him settle in D Naija system especially durin the Abacha era? He just dumped them by droppin a resignation letter.Cool FM reportedly tried increasing his salary, but he wudn't accept and the Cool FM owners even begged him,but all to no avail. Went even as far as switching off his phone, probably to avoid been contacted. COOL FM,rocks!

Our children abroad are allowed citizen of nigeria too, even when they are born outside of nigeria.

Dan Foster became a nigeria citizen on his wedding day.  according to the constitution of nigeria. a person become an automatic citizen of nigeria if they are married to a nigeria.

see the constitution of nigeria.

@Becomrich no one is doubting the constitutional or immigration provision with regards to who is a Nigerian citizen/who can become a Nigerian citizen.  Please see my first response to this thread.
However what I found amusing in your post is that you think the law of naturalization is 'automatic'.   Grin

Dan Foster having marry his naija wife still needs to apply to the Nigerian Immigration Service for naturalization (i.e. take a Nigerian passport) if he so wish or resident permit if he does not want to become a Nigerian citizen but only wish to live & work in naija! This he failed to do (according to the story).
